Correct me if I'm wrong but, the only agency I can think of that doesn't have fare integration with GO is the TTC. I don't see that as a major cause for concern for what has been a suburban focused commuter rail system. Will become more valid once 2 way frequent service actually takes effect. It wasn't that long ago since Lakeshore East in Durham region was the only GO owned track. Best billion plus dollars spent.
There's no fare integration with 905 systems either. I used MiWay+GO earlier this week and didn't get the discount. I contacted GO's customer service but no response. Looks like I'll just use TTC instead of GO from now on.
Well about that, Translink fills every train they put in service, with most runs being standing room only. The limiting factor is track access agreements with the CPR, which I understand is refusing to allow more West Coast Express trains during peak commuting periods. The relatively recent service increase of a couple extra runs each day was apparently the result of years of negotiations and rumour has it that Translink got absolutely hosed on the deal but still needed to get it done to alleviate chronic over-crowding.
So yes, by comparison to GO, the West Coast Express has paltry ridership. But it's a revenue-positive service, fully integrated with our regional transit fare structure, it doesn't receive any provincial subsidy (let alone investment), and it is packed to the rafters daily. It attracts choice transit riders who would likely otherwise have driven downtown, has helped spur higher-density suburban development, and it delivers riders to a downtown CBD station with seamless connectivity to SkyTrain and SeaBus services.
They also run trains 1/2rd the length of GO trains. it would take 2 WCE trains to carry as many people as most GO trains. My point to ssiguy was that GO is far from under used, especially compared to his "example".

There's no real GO fare integration from Hamilton either. You get a slight discount if you tap onto an HSR bus from GO Transit using PRESTO or vice versa, but that's it. You used to be able to get a much bigger discount when you showed your paper ticket to an HSR driver but they got rid of that when PRESTO came around and now the discount is much less even with that.

They sent out the request for proposals on the electrical substation work. That's the last I've heard on it. Work is also beginning on removing level crossings on the Lakeshore line as well.
I usually cab or rocket depending where I am going and what time it is, but for $27 or whatever it was I was point to point in 25mins on a nice AC'd comfy train.
I will only use this from now on.

How has the general reception been for UPX? I'm considering taking it when I fly into Pearson next. I think the price is totally reasonable given the alternative.

I agree. People say it's expensive but it costs less than a taxi and is a lot more comfortable so...
Since the funding announcement for electrification in April 2015, staff with international expertise in electrification and a technical advisor (Gannett Fleming, Inc.) have been brought on board to support moving forward with the electrification of the rail network.
Construction commitments require Metrolinx to complete the environmental assessment by the end of 2016 and consultations are likely to begin this fall. Pre-consultation activities on electrification will focus on building understanding of electrification, the infrastructure required to support it and information on health and the environment. These materials were created to support the electrification study and will be re-purposed to start building public awareness as we move in to consultations. Detailed design and phasing will follow the approval of the environmental assessment.
Wow those UPX trains and platforms are standing room only. Clearly Torontonians are flocking to the new service in droves.
Why the ignorant comment? You know the ridership numbers are meeting the expected projections. Honestly enough with the half baked agenda of trying to discredit the service any chance you get, it's getting very old.

Actually, I'm not surprised by Mississauga. I've used Durham and York and they had a discount.
