DELTA from 19DEC15 is adding a new Canadian connection from Seattle, as it launches 1 daily Seattle – Edmonton operation. This route will be operated by DELTA Connection CRJ700 aircraft.

DL4700 SEA1955 – 2250YEG CR7 D
DL4701 YEG0900 – 0955SEA CR7 D

http://airlineroute.net/2015/08/30/dl-seayeg-dec15/
DL4701 has a sloppy connection to Asia (time in SEA will be 2-3 hours which is on the high side), good connection to the rest of Western USA, poor connection potential to Eastern USA, and no connection to Hawaii or TransAtlantic routes.

DL4700 is the bigger problem. No connection potential (unless you want to spend the day at SEA) to anywhere except for the western USA.

In short, someone from YEG can get to HKG on DL through SEA, but cannot get back without using an AS flight for SEA-YEG.

I took the Family to SEA for summer vacation. Very impressed with both the airport and city, highly recommend both. I did not find the airport to be too crowded (comparable to SFO, LAX, EWR, ORD, DEN, etc.). While the customs area is packed, the family and I have Nexus/Global Entry; that is the way of the future. I understand the South Concourse international arrivals can be a pain at peak times.

From a pure sentimental perspective, I hope AS/Horizon can continue YEG-SEA. It was AS/Horizon that has stuck it out in YEG when most others left. While UA returned they have decreased service as of late.

While DL is doing a big push at SEA, this particular flight announcement speaks in part to another problem for DL @ SEA. Together with AS, DL has run out of remain over night spots SEA. The cargo areas are packed with passenger aircraft late in the evening, as are all the gates.

This new flight will give DL some revenue and allow for DL to base more aircraft out of SEA.

I'd heard about that. Bit of a mess down there. My point still stands, and that's further evidence for it: this is DL using YEG as a parking lot for a CRJ as opposed to some burning desire to serve the city. Your last post addressing the lack of connections is proof more than anything.

This isn't a bad thing on our end.

Just returned from Europe using KLM from YEG. Certainly a different experience than domestic or cross border travel. Two free checked bags, two free meals, snacks, free wine and beer, all in economy. We used KLM from there to get to Kilimanjaro (JRO). Same treatment on that flight too. Amsterdam is a great city to visit and the trains from the airport go everywhere. Only beef is when we arrived at Schipol from JRO we had to go through security even though we were connecting back to YEG. Our checked luggage went through so if we had any duty free booze we would have lost it. I learned the hard way years ago not to buy duty free until you are on the last leg home. Not sure why, but I think it's because the EU zone doesn't trust security from other countries outside their borders. Same thing happened to us at KEF when we used Icelandair last year.

Did you have to go through security when catching the flight to JRO?
I'm flying in December with two little ones and dread having to go through security with them. I'm connecting to Spain.

Well we actually stayed in AMS for two days before flying to JRO, just to relax and break up the trip a bit, so we did have to go through again. Last year when we connected through KEF on our way to Oslo we went through security here at home of course and then again before we left for Oslo even though we didn't leave the airport. I'm pretty sure it has to do with entering the EU zone. You have to go through passport control but then won't have to in Spain because you're already in the EU. It's not that big a deal, just kind of odd.

Today's KLM flight used the 292 seat A330-300 instead of the usual 243 seat A330-200.

Last time I was clearing customs in Seattle we were held upstairs in hallway coming off the aircraft bridge for nearly an hour before we could even get to the front of the line heading downstairs to immigration. Just before us there were several Delta flights from Asia arriving as well as the Emeritus flight.

The 0900 flight on Delta from YEG to SEA is 15 minutes earlier than the first Delta flight leaves from YYC? (0915) So are the connections in SEA better for the flight arriving from YYC than the one earlier from YEG?

How is this at all a YEG vs YYC thing? Your rhetoric is getting pretty old.

The 915 YYC-SEA has the same issues as 900 YEG-SEA. The overall YYC-SEA route is helped by the 3-4 daily departures. Using YVR as a connection point, pax cN choose from 9, 930, 10, or 11:15 departure. Comopensating for the poor connection timeline is a primary reason for cheaper flights through DL compared to AC.

Again the 3-4 daily flights the YYC connections from Asian or European DL flights have better options

For YEG perspective, there is 10:20 option through AC that connects to YVr Asian connection bank. Again the connection is more efficient so a higher price is expected.

In this case, the question is valid. Edmtrekker was calling me out for dissing the YEG flight when the YYC flight had the same issue.

My original analysis of DL@SEA was based in large part on YYC, so rolling things forward to YEG was very simple. My initial post did not include the YYC angle.

Could be in large part due to families returning with kids prior to school season.

Back to the DL flight. I don't for a second disagree that a 0900 departure is inconvenient for connections. So happens I am booked on a DL flight out of Seattle and DL themselves scheduled me on the Alaska flight dept YEG at 0615 so I could connect. Why DL is not offering a 0615 - 0630 flight departure is puzzling - but given the late arrival of the latest flight into YYC and YEG that may explain some of it (crew time). Gates should not be a problem.

Is this based on insider info?

That's pretty normal, you have to clear security again. Not just AMS, but FRA and other airports too
