While there are no pictures of the South-East side, this render shows both a translucent and fully opaque part of the siding, depending on where you look. This is because where the translucent parts are is the ramps to go up and down.
That's going to be an amazing stadium. I am so jealous.

We're seeing the same thing with Mosaic as we saw with Quebec's arena - renders automatically minimize the ugliness of siding... so much that I didn't even know Mosaic was going to have siding.

It'll be a nice stadium and all, but just like Quebec's arena - the siding really ruins the look.

I said the same thing last year when the Sadiums renders first came out I said it probably will be the same quality build as IGF. I just couldn't see the extra 80M going that far with inflation and so on, They ripped me apart for it and went on rants about how IGF's builder/desinger didn't know what they were doing and this company is more credible bla bla bla it will be exactly like the render bla bla bla. I had a feeling I was right and if the Exterior sets the standard of what this stadium will be than Regina will have the same stadium concept as Winnipeg. A great modern stadium that will do the job flawlessly BUT will feel Cheap.

Calgary isn't going to get the summer Olympics. It takes a city several times the size of Calgary to host the summer games, and even Toronto is smaller than most recent hosts. The last time a city as small as Calgary held the summer Olympics was Helsinki way back in 1952.

Werent they supposed to replace the seats at the acc this summer?

Loving the jets logo inside the scoreboard. Leafs new board looks sharp as well.

Regarding regina, i still think it will be a small touch above igf.

I heard they were both replacing and just Covering the existing ones before the All star game.

I don't imagine they will take long to install once they are ready but 20,000 seat covers is a big order to fill

Interestingly, if you take a look at the application process (took place in 1947), Helsinki beat the following cities:
Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia.

All of those bids are separate and all of the American cities applied again for 1956 (adding San Francisco), along with Montreal, before losing to Melbourne.

Does any Canadian team have a small scoreclock anymore? Edmonton or Calgary maybe? Vancouver was the first to go huge then Montreal got an even larger one and now Toronto and Winnipeg.

" . . . . . feel Cheap."????!!!! The photos don't do her any justice; but believe me, Mosaic II will neither look nor feel "cheap." Come by and see.

This will be a 50-some-odd year stadium, and it needs to be made of durable construction material/siding 'n that, . . and it is [initially] an outdoor facility. (At present, . . unless they stick a lid on 'er.)

I suppose Calgary would have the smallest board. Although it's no slouch, it'll be the oldest board of any Canadian NHL club (I believe it was installed 2006)

Quebec City needs a ski hill for the downhill events as Le Massif has been repeatedly deemed to small and flat. I'm not sure if there are other options for the downhill events?

Calgary is 2x the size it was, and based on how big the legacy of '88 is here still I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the more supportive places in Canada for the Olympics, and when the economy rebounds, we could probably afford it. A lot of new facilities would need to be built, but the Bobsleigh is not one of them, it's still the home of the national team and is a major stop on the World Cup for all sliding events. There would need to be some upgrades to the track for sure, but it seems to be pretty good still. A new Stadium and Arena are a given, but we are already having the discussion. The biggest question for me is what mountain would they use, not sure if Nakiska could handle the crowds this time, may have to go to Louise.

Games have doubled in size since Calgary last hosted so more facilities are needed.

- new ski towers as old ones are obsolete
- new bobsleigh and luge as old ones are obsolete.
- indoor long track speed-skating could still be used but would need significant upgrades for Olympics
- new stadium
- need 3 arenas - 2 arenas for men's and women's hockey and another for figure skating and short-track
- need a large curling centre
- new Olympic Park for all the various skiing events
- media centre
- one or two Olympic Villages

Yeah, this would easily be $10 billion. If the deadline for bidding for the 2026 Olympics is 2017, that only gives Calgary 2 years to get their act together. Will the oil and the economy have bounced back by then? If not, then I wouldn't expect there to be any significant drive within Alberta to host the games. Remember, two-thirds of the cost will be paid by Calgary and Alberta. Most likely, Quebec City will be representing Canada in the bid process anyways, as long as the OC relaxes their height requirements for the downhill skiing.

With all due respect, show me a stadium that looks exactly like the rendering. At&T stadium, the new Oiler stadium, heck, even the MTS upgrades have been ho-hum compared to the renderings. Renderings are designed to sell the buyer on the facility. Of course they're going to be digitally enhanced.

As for the extra 80m going into Mosaic... Well, so far, the stadium looks nearly identical to what the renders show. Are you saying Mosaic will feel cheap because they're using aluminum siding for a portion of the facade?...

Being involved in the backend, New Mosaic has a lot going for it for that extra 80 million (over IGF).
-There's 2 extra levels (1 on either side) of suite/enclosed seating. These levels are generally quite expensive as there's far more money spent per square foot in suites than concrete slabs and plastic seats for general seating.
-New Mosaic is being built with a majority of reinforced concrete as opposed to steel. Steel is much easier to work with on the fly but unfortunately takes up more space. Reinforced concrete is much stronger while taking up less space which equals more usable space for fans, the team, etc.
-New Mosaic has 9 elevators compared to IGF's 4.
-New Mosaic has broadcasting rooms/facilities set up for major TV/Radio/future broadcasting. IGF added power for the TSN trucks afterwards.
-New Mosaic has sections in the spec specifically for water, snow and ice drainage, as well heat trace diagrams to ensure no damage. IGF... well, had/has water issues.
-New Mosaic field lighting will be state of the art LED, controllable by computer program. IGF field lighting uses metal halide lights that haven't changed since the Bombers won their last cup. Do you know the initial price difference between the 2, or the energy savings of LED over metal halide?
-New Mosaic accent/facade/roof lighting will be RGB LED, controllable by computer. IGF... TBD.
-IGF's roof structure was an incredible portion of the project's cost compared to New Mosaic's translucent roof. I like IGF's atmosphere because of the roof, however I much prefer the translucent material for it's all around benefits... As do many sports architects as they continue to use it far more often in their designs. Spending so much money on the roof is a major disappointment as it has far better value elsewhere within the stadium... And there are much less expensive roof options available.

I could go on and on comparing New Mosaic to IGF but I don't want to downplay IGF. Saying New Mosaic will be cheap because you don't feel the siding looks as pretty as the renders is laughable. I also don't want to get into a battle of designers. 1 firm specializes in building sports facilities, the other firm builds office condominiums.

At the end of the day, for the amount of money New Mosaic will cost, you're not getting a billion dollar stadium... However the tax payer will definitely not be getting an IGF (in terms of initial cost, or long term cost, including energy, power, etc).
