Very well written article on Goldman Sachs up in Salt Lake City and how Salt Lake City is earning the title of "Wall Street of the West'". The Salt Lake City office is now their second largest domestic office and fourth largest overall. It says that the company will occupy some space in the new 111 office building.

With how big they are getting in Utah, Salt Lake specifically, and the fact it's their fourth largest overall....I hope one day they will build their own tower downtown. It should be something that sticks out in a good way, consolidate their workforce into it. If they did that there would surely be other companies in the future wanting their name on the Salt Lake skyline....maybe one day

Goldman doesn't put their name on big buildings; they're too classy for that and/or they don't want to make it easier for the lynch mobs to find them when they fuck over America again.

As a corporate citizen Goldman is a bastard, but I'm glad they're our bastard.

Regarding them being set on commiting to one building. This should shed some light in their non-committal/ non-centralized habit:

....and as happy as I am about Goldman Sachs bringing employees to SLC, and having those employees downtown, and that being the impetus for 222 and other buildings filling up... I do share SP Hansen's concern about them building one signature tower. Ever since the American Stores fiasco (building the now-Wells Fargo building, then pulling out a few months after it was finished), that strategy has left a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, we got a nice building out of it. But we also got a big empty husk for many years, adding to the desertification of downtown.

Then again, if Goldman Sachs wants to build a shiny new tallest in the say, 40-story range, I'll kiss whatever ass comes my way. Corrupt villains.

Hmm, This was on the Peg Development page. Same people who are giving us Wilmington Gardens. Is this one of the many rumored hotels for Downtown lately?

It looks like it would fit next to the former Shilo - Sorry I hate typing out Holiday Inn for a downtown hotel.

The west face (right side) also seems to match the design of the image in the RDA report about selling the land from the city to the developer.

If PEG owns the Holiday Inn, then it is a good guess that this is the Marriott hotel that will be going on the surface parking there.

The height also seems to be around the 100' mark - the cap for mid-block buildings without a conditional use permit.

That could be a possibility. It would be very tight though, and they would have to cut off the Holiday Inn where the first floor juts out to the west.

I can't really say a lot about PEG Development's planned downtown hotel as it is very much still in the discussion phases. I can say that it is very likely to happen but not adjacent to the former Shilo Inn. That is a different company that also owns Marriott franchises in Utah. The AC hotel brand is new for Marriott and there are only a handful in the country. It is designed to be more of a high end, boutique hotel. The conceptual plans that I have seen look really good thus far.

Hmm, so this is in addition to the other hotels we've been hearing about. A bit of a hotel boom happening right now (assuming they all get built that is) I'm sure you can't tell us the location... but can you tell us the location?

I can't say exactly where it is as I do not believe they have closed on the property yet. I would hate to create a issue with acquiring the land. It is close to the Salt Palace and is a very under utilized piece of ground at the moment. Once it's a bit further down the pike I would be happy to share it with you all.

I do have to say that there is so much hotel talk downtown. There are so many proposed at the moment that I have a hard time believing that they can all be built. It will be interesting to see which projects move forward and what sort of impact the proposals have on companies bidding for the convention center hotel.

They have practically proposed building the AC hotel in every major city.....seriously, not so unique anymore. Its basically Marriott's answer to Kimptons "Palomar Hotel". Anyway I imagine this proposal for an AC Hotel was done by White Lodging, a company that already runs 4 hotels in the Salt Lake valley and also runs the Denver AC Hotel. I'm actually totally sure that's who it is. They are a serious company and are most likely going to build this hotel, I would actually say this is a better bet than either of the other 2, AIR and Regent being built (sad to say). They should cut it in half and stack it on top of each other so we have a high-rise not just another mid rise....is building a 10 story building that much cheaper than a 20 story building? I would imagine if it was more, it would only be by a little. Plus imagine the property cost would be a lot cheaper, that could make up the difference....

Also Hilton is looking at building a Hilton Garden INN downtown as well, keep your eye out for that one..

Another thought...... I think the Regent street hotel might be the AC hotel.......hmmmm

Your insight and inside knowledge are always appreciated. I would never want you to say something that would compromise your job or the ability of a development to get done.

There is A LOT of underutilized pieces land around the Salt Palace, so that is exciting that hopefully one of them will be improved. Anything along 200 West or on the Royal Wood Plaza site would be nice.
