Although I live in Bella Vista, immediately to the north, I have also been to community meetings where such anecdotal car abundance per household was reported. I openly questioned where these households were and received no response.

There was a time when 5-6 residents per household was a common feature...about 40 years ago. The stories are old as well.

On my block most people have one car, some have none, and a few have two. There are apartment buildings with multiple tenants. Many people have bicycles. There are many blocks with no parking at all or only on one side. Hence, the seeming parking density. Thats all.

Crews are still working on the western facade (facing Broad Street) of the future Aloft Hotel at 101 N. Broad. Anyone have scoop on this? Looks like repointing, maybe cleaning work.

I went to a pretty cool cigar bar in Indianapolis tonight and was told one was going in at 1601 Market. It's scheduled to open March 1st. This will definitely give Ashton's some competition. They also said 3 other restaurants were going in near them. I'm guessing this is the Two Liberty Place entrance??

1601 Market is the old 5 Penn Center, which is across Market Street from the PNC Bank tower and the Liberty Place "mall" entrance.

Okay. The manager said the building was all glass so I thought it had to be 2LP. Now looking at 1601, I see that is all glass on the first floor. He also mentioned that in all, 4 restaurants (including them) would go into that intersection. I wonder what the other 3 are and where exactly they are going. I saw over the weekend that work was being done at the mall entrance to 2LP.

That is good news! As I believe the 1700 Market - the Deloitte building - and 1835 Market are also to get new restaurants and retail. When pared with new residential via 1919 Market, that whole stretch is getting a much needed infusion of life.

A number of years ago, 1601 was somewhat "debrutalized" and given a lobby level makeover to hold its ground against the sleeker new competition. The work on the Liberty Place entrance may have to do with more than one thing, but it has bee reported somewhere on this site, that it mainly has to do with the new observation deck that is soon coming to One Liberty Place.

Yes. I recall that 1700 is actually getting a small addition that will include at least one chain restaurant, maybe two. I wasn't aware of anything going on at 1835, other than the pop-up beer garden that L&I closed. It will be interesting to see what else develops there, and whether there will be more activity around the intersection of 16th & Market, as the cigar bar intel suggests.

I have to say that this even makes me more fond of the 1919 project, as W. Market is appears to be getting an after-hours and weekend life that it really hasn't had in my lifetime.

Welcome to the incredibly frustrating world of (attempted) photo posting on this website. As others told me, you need to use flickr or imgur or some other similar web photo service. The latter is free and doesn't require an account. PS-choose the large thumbnail version when posting so that the borders of you photo don't stretch to Jersey.

Almost a 100% sure this is for the multi level parking garage they are building there. I believe the goal is to build that so they can remove cars from the big lot so they can make moves with the taller portion of the piazza complex. BUT, this part of the project hasn't been proposed or talked about in YEARS...

This has been going on for at least a month. They are making significant repairs to the facade and roof areas. I presume this had to be done in order for the hotel renovation to move forward. The original permit for these repairs was issued several years ago- it only seems to be happening now that the hotel proposal is funded and ready to go.

Planning official: Philly casino proposal short of space

Harold Brubaker, Inquirer Staff Writer
Posted: Wednesday, August 19, 2015, 1:08 AM

The plan for Philadelphia's second casino does not meet zoning requirements because it lacks enough open space. Its proposed digital signs also exceed limits, a city planning commission official said Tuesday.

That means the $500 million project in South Philadelphia requires two significant changes to the underlying zoning code, Martin Gregorski, director of the planning commission's development division, told commissioners during a presentation on Live! Hotel & Casino Philadelphia.

"They don't have the open space that is required - although they are having a two-acre-plus green roof on top of the building that officially does not count for its open space," Gregorski said.

The meeting marked the beginning of public efforts by Stadium Casino L.L.C., a partnership of Cordish Cos., of Baltimore, and Greenwood Racing Inc., owner of Parx Casino, in Bensalem, to win local approvals for their proposal.

I don't really see why they need an open space requirement at a slots barn near the stadiums...

Mitigating rainwater runoff? I agree it seems a bit silly, but that could be a potential benefit of the open space requirement here. That vast swath of parking must be terrible for runoff during rain storms and Philly has some serious problems with our combined rainwater/sewage system. That being said, the green roof should provide the same water absorption benefits as what would normally be classified as open space so I tend to agree that the open space requirement shouldn't force them to redesign anything.
