Welcome to Edmonton

This is right around the time of year that the mornings start to feel cool as the days start to get shorter

In southern BC it feels like this in late September

Now's about the time we start thinking about where we're going to spend two weeks in January

I remember my time in TO, right around Labour day the temps would drop quite a bit.

"Now's about the time we start thinking about where we're going to spend two weeks in January" ... for many people they thought about this last January.

Very good news especially if this ends up in Edmonton's hands after annexation review.

East side of QEII was to remain with Leduc County IIRC.

So with Calgary looking to get a domed football stadium any idea if it is possible to put a retractable roof on Commonwealth?

because we know the topic will come up

Retractable roofs are a pain to maintain.

Here's a concern though - when a band does a stadium tour, where would they rather play - a swanky new domed stadium in Calgary, or an open air stadium in Edmonton?

^this is the issue as the facility can be more multipurpose with a retractable roof.

The reality is that a city moves to the next level with a multipurpose retractable stadium.

If we want to keep up with the other 4 cities who have or will have them in Canada serious consideration needs to be made.

and I have had enough of sitting out in the cold weather watching a game. The fan is expecting more these days.

I believe enclosing was researched many years ago and shelved. As I recall, it would have made Commonwealth the largest enclosed stadium in the world, or something along those lines. I don't recall retractable being studied.

A roof of any kind on Commonwealth would ruin the experience for me, CFL is about cold wintery games in oct/nov.

In the summer being outdoors is amazing.

There is little need outside of that given the costs or opportunity cost.

not retractable, the lower stands are retractable to expose the running track I believe.

Neat.

But the concert venue issue is a non-issue. It's hard to fill a 60,000 person stadium regardless of a roof or not. So competing for concert space between edmonton and calgary isn't going to be on the football venues, it will be the arena venues which hold a comfortable 18-20k.

Maybe the two big cities having new venues will just attract more big names, more often. Being two and a half hours apart is a great attraction for artists wanting big pay days in an easy 2 days.

Formerly known as the AB Place Suite Hotel, may I present Jasper Heights! Bach and 1 bedroom are now available for tours.

Curious to see what would go in on the main.
