They have a solid firm behind the project so it should turn out well. That said, it would have been nice to see a winning proposal from something a little more inventive.

One can also see how undersized the area is/was for the massive stadium project. Lots of anticipation for the designs and plans that Urban Strategies Inc. of Toronto will come up with.

Thank you great pictures , starting with the stadium this is going to be a amazing transformation of the central core , the pictures don't even show the old stadium lands

Definitely the site with the most potential in the City. Hoping we see lots of shops and restaurants go up in there along with at least 1500+ residents.

We have no truly urban neighbourhoods in Saskatchewan. This (and Saskatoon's North Downtown) could becomes the first.

I will make a prediction that less than 250 people will end up living in that area, and that most of it will be commercial sprawl. I hope I am wrong though!

A new arena would be great but I'd rather see it at Evraz with all the other amenities that exist there. Evraz Place is a powerhouse as it is and getting better with the new trade center. A new arena there would top it off.

The railyards deserve condo's and office, high rises and low rises, restaurants and shopping with maybe some green areas. Look forward to seeing the bridge concept connecting downtown to the warehouse too.

Speaking of which, over the years/decades, I was always under the impression and have always hears that the Brandt could easily be expanded. What is the latest on that? It would certainly be most economical; however, the Brandt (nee Agridome) may be becoming outdated.

FYI,

The Agridome initially opened with 4666 seats back in '77. CJME's Alec Docking did the initial TV commercial featurette about the Agridome when it opened.

I heard from a source close to the development that the site plan for the CP rail lands is going to include a Walmart Supercenter.

I went to the RFC today to see the B-25 bomber. It's a piece of aviation history. It was great to experience the start-up of the Wright R-2600 14-cylinder engines. What a beautiful noise

The Brandt can be expanded by filling in the west side with seats, similar to what was done with the east side. I'd say there is currently little incentive to do that though. The Pats certainly don't need the extra seats, and most concerts are not in-the-round.

The Brandt Centre is structurally sound, and could probably go another 15-20 years before needing to be replaced. In any case, designing stadiums and arenas for a 50-60 year lifetime is certainly a better deal for taxpayers...

As dumb as this sounds I was sort of happy to see that. I'm not sure how many of you have been to the Uptown Shops in Victoria but they have a huge 2 level Walmart connected to a variety of other mid size and smaller stores with condos built above with a gym, common space etc, a new Whole Foods expansion currently ongoing as well. All connected with a variety of parkade options. I think something similar would be a huge win for the railway lands.

Great idea they do this kind of development in other cities , it would be a huge win for the downtown , also include a movie theatre , make it a people friendly place

Uptown is a pretty neat place and I wish that Westerra or Coopertown would make a suburban CBD in that style. One thing though, Victoria doesn't have to deal with snow clearance.
