The Low Down on Sea Island's $5 return AddFare

Although travel is free between the three Airport Authority Stations, if you are heading to Bridgeport and beyond, the $5 AddFare is required (in addition to your regular fare) if you are starting your trip from Sea Island.

It is important to note that the YVR AddFare only applies to passengers buying fares from the ticket vending machines at YVR Airport, Sea Island Centre and Templeton station.

However, this will change when Compass is launched to the general public. At that time those with Stored Value (Compass version of FareSavers) will be charged the $5 AddFare when they tap in at one of the three Sea Island stations and tap out at Bridgeport Station or beyond.

Who's exempt from the AddFare?

Riders with a Monthly Pass, DayPass, FareSavers, WCE Fare, U-Pass and BC Bus Pass are exempt from the AddFare. Sea Island residents and YVR employees are also not required to pay the additional fare.

Also, if you a purchase a ticket before travelling to one of Airport Authority stations, and return within the 90-minute fare expiry window, then you are also off the hook for AddFare.

Car2go recently announced they are doubling the Vancouver fleet from 625 cars to 1250.

I already see a lot of their cars around, it's about to get ridiculous.

I guess they are feeling the pinch from BCAA's recent Evo car share launch. It's just too bad they are smart cars. That is hands down the worst car I've ever driven.

The largest Car2Go fleet in the world apparently. Impressive for Vancouver, especially considering that there is an exact copy of Car2Go but with better vehicles (Evo) and also Zipcar and Modo.

Vancouver's car-sharing market has been pretty cut throat in terms of competition, but this is partially due to the willingness of the city to provide a platform for competition. If only they can do this in other transportation modes...

Which might explain why I saw a collision between two Car2Go vehicles on Monday, one rear-ending the other. What are the odds of that? Higher than I perhaps might have first thought.

wouldn't car2go be the worst choice for a car share since they only have smart cars? there doesn't seem to be a lot of carrying space for anything in those things. though there are tons of them around and some places I've seen 2 cars in one spot. handy i guess since you can have 2x the amount of cars.

the SkyBridge is so nice looking with that super thin deck. it looks very sleek and it doesn't look its age.

It was nice getting to ride and record a video of R8065 on the 351 Crescent Beach this evening from Bridgeport Stn to White Rock Center. Riding an articulated bus on this route felt so much more different from riding the typical Orion V bus. I do hope in the long run, we can get to see more articulated buses popping up on these routes because routes such as the 351 and 601 could use some during the rush hour.

If any of you guys are interested on catching this bus, final trip will be the 23:50 departure from Bridgeport Stn on the 351 Crescent Beach.

The Smart cars are fun to sling around corners. I know people hate the transmission but I found the trick is to let go of the gas pedal while the transmission is shifting, which allows the gear to shift faster. They're terrible above 80km/h though.

Christy Clark moved Translink responsibility under Fassbender and the Ministry of Community, Sport, and Social Development.

I agree with Fassbender being responsible for Translink, as he seems fairly forward-looking and rational. However, I'm not sure why she didn't just outright replace Todd Stone. He has been a flop for everything except $250k bike lanes in Prince George.

I went to the Transportation meeting for the Flats planning they had a few weeks ago and this actually came up in the discussion. Folks thought it was a good idea.

The idea is floating around. It'll be interesting to see if City planners latch onto it.

Flats planning is still very early. They're basically at the idea stage I think.

Clearly off topic at the moment, but: Wanting to register for the SFU Transportation Lecture Series in Surrey.....I travel exclusively by transit or walking. The lectures end at 9:30 pm on Tuesdays, at City Hall, very near Surrey Central Station. Here's the ironic bit: There is No Service Available that will get me home .........bitterly disappointed.

Where do you live that you can't get back at 10:00 by bus?

There is a massive area in Guildford/Fleetwood that is not serviced after 9:30pm. You have to cab or endure a 30+ min walk.

This is the grid that spans from 164th to 156th St and 88th Ave and 100th Ave.

144th St between 88th Ave and 64th Ave too.

As well, I'm in Tokyo right now so I'll probably be able to take some pictures of the newest Oedo Line trains delivered earlier this year.

I think I recall seeing 5 car sets of these trains slated for Vancouver with a capacity that would allow Skytrains ultimate capacity to be bumped up from 25 700pphpd. Do you happen to know what the capacity of the 5 car set would be?

man KL sure buys trains every couple years. Seems they are SkyTrain vehicle junkies.
