Unless you have insider-information, and have been talking to people actually working on it, your speculation is as good as anyone pulling a random answer out of their —.

Find proof, then we have a reason to go get mad over it. The Plebiscite is over, any more "Translink is wasting money, oh boo hoos, give Jordan Bateman a medal for giving the middle finger to Metro Vancouver" ideas will have to wait for the next hare-brained idea from our mayors.

I think it's obvious there's a problem, but why nobody is talking could be entirely anybody's guess.

The contract states the EGRT team is on the hook for any cost overruns, correct? What about schedule overruns? Are their penalties for delays? It makes sense that they wouldn't admit any delays until the last possible minute.

As long as the contract is fixed bid, and there's a financial penalty for late delivery (per month or whatever), I could honestly not care less.

Do you have a source for these numbers?

Also, would you rather the engineers and the TBM just "damn the sinkholes, full speed ahead" or should they slow down and get things right? It seems to me that you're complaining about sinkholes appearing, and when they slow down to try to mitigate that problem, you're complaining about them going too slow.

Well, maybe there's a reason nobody here takes your complaints seriously.

Perhaps some situations cannot be "managed". The Polis are delaying the "full speed ahead" - which is what it would take to finish this.

They are afraid of public complaints. But sometimes, you have to break some eggs to make an omelette. That is the situation here.

In the meantime, delays upon delays. AT midnight on July 31 (three and one half days from now) "late july" will be over.

Then we can look forward to the next slice of PR BS.

Till later

Yay! Keep watching the tunnel exit for the parade of dump trucks that happens when they are actually drilling:

Does anyone have a source document for the July 31st re-startup date?

I doubt they would start on a Friday (unless they are now on a 24/7 schedule) so if they haven't started boring already, then earliest would be next week....

If you increase the number of pics from 10 to 100, you get a series of 96 pics at 15 minute intervals that go back 24 hours.

When you rapidly scroll all 96 pics, it is like watching a movie - sort of.

The only thing moving as of July 30th (the 'ol late July) is what has been moving for the last 6 months.

The only thing that moves on the site are the shadows.

There are no people there, not even a watchman some days.

I repeat ... something is rotten in the state of TBM.

Oh and there was a door open

Please. If using the construction photo's is the only evidence that "nothing is happening" then you're witch-hunting.

well, wadda ya know

The Lords on high at Translink have sent out an email on the tunnel

1) In preparation for the arrival of the tunnel boring machine (TBM), crews are continuing to strengthen the soil below the roadway from the surface of Clarke Road just south of Robinson Street. In early August, crews will be shifting the construction site from the east side to the west side of the roadway

Okay ... that should be the last of the "late July" comments

2) The subsurface ground improvement work will be ongoing until late summer. Crews are continuing to inject cement grout into the ground approximately 40 metres below the surface.

okay ... late summer means middle of September, just poli code for "that is the least amount of time it will take.

and finally ...

3) These lane closures will allow crews to continue injecting cement grout (jet grouting) from the surface to strengthen soils in front of the TBM to prepare for the required maintenance and cutterhead tool change this fall.

Okay ... do you read this the same way that I do. The maintenance on the TBM is NOT taking place now. It will only start once the grouting is finished by "late summer".

And who knows how long the maintenance will last?

Put it all together and November 1 as a start date for more tunneling starts to sound more and more reasonable.

Well ... at least they have a plan ... whatever it really is.

Are there traffic lights attached to the guideway on the other lines around town? Makes me wonder who is responsible for changing burned out LED arrays and other maintenance since it would involve the guideway to a degree.

We have them on the Canada Line on 3 Road, which is even more interesting because of the involvement of ProTrans BC.
