Of course ... it is so obvious

The TBM has been stalled in place since January ... here we are in "late July" .. the completion date has moved from late spring 2016 to Fall 2016 ..

and now we discover the problem.

It is my obsession.

Of course, mea culpa. I will immediately stop posting here , run into my yard, put on a horsehair shirt, smother myself in ashes and meditate on my failure as a human being for the next 30 years.

I can say that i have been doing nothing but start up and development projects for more than 40 years. I have run into unanticipated delays more times than most of you have hairs on your head.

I know what it smells like, I know what it feels like and I know what people say when they are scrambling to put a brave face on a mess.

But, Hey ... it is just an obsession.

Actually, it is not. I tried to get some of you to see this SHITuation for what it really is.

There is a really big problem here. And no body is talking. Not Translink, not the contractor, not the politicians and not the newspapers.

Even on this forum, the only who sees this, seems to be me.

Mind you, I am not blaming any of the people involved. I have been in this same situation more times than I care to recall. I understand and I am very tolerant.

The thing I can't take easily is dishonesty, an unwillingness to face the issue head on, and the attitude that if you give the public the "mushroom treatment" that things will work out.

I know what the real problem is .. and it is not engineering and it is not the TBM technology.

The engineers and the TBM can finish the job in 3 to 4 months.

What is an issue is the unanticipated surface subsidence. The Polis are so afraid of any public bad press .. that they have willingly delayed the project by 6 months now and counting. That is 6 months at (my calculation) 10 million minimum a month in costs.

I have been pushing you people to "get it" but I seem not to have had much luck. The best comment I elicited was about my obsessions.

Hey, I sometimes like a hamburger with mayonnaise instead of with mustard. perhaps we can talk about that for three weeks instead of the big issue - no tunnel.

BTW - in small part due to the engineering and in very large part to political "iron elbow" (a tennis expression for when fear seizes you up so badly that you can't hit a shot ... hence "iron elbow") ... the UBC line is now delayed until after the next provincial election.

The Polis all want to seem as if they are everyone's friend. ... no matter what the cost and what the delay to other things that need to be done.

RR

PS : I also don't like tomato on my burgers ... another 4 weeks of chat right there . You can't stop me.
