The main thing I want to see from Montreal is more mid rises outside of downtown, say 5-10 stories. Not with glass cladding though. I want to see masonry structures.

There's enough 3-4 story buildings that some 5 floor ones wouldn't really be noticed, and 6-9 floors always looks so awkward (too short to stand out, too tall to fit in), and then 10 is pushing highrise anyway.

My concern is mainly the street level environment and I see 6-9 stories as more than enough to stand out and give some extra heft to the streetscape.

To replace the country's best streetscapes? That's ridiculous.

A) I wasn't expecting them to replace it, I mean you'd have to quadruple the population or more to fill those high rises.

B) 5-10 floor mid-rises would destroy more to add the same density.

The vast, dense, neighbourhood seen on that picture is totally devoid of any room to build. No surface parking lots, nothing. So unless you start to demolished triplexes... I don't see how this part of town needs residential high rises, it's already very dense, very urban.

I love this angle. It looks like it was taken from the western-most-edge of West Vancouver.

This is actually quite interesting as that tall tower is the first Solo District tower in Brentwood (Burnaby) and that is Vancouver in the back. Two skylines are well composed together and this view will look amazing with 60 floor towers going up in Brentwood right now.

I think it is another photo from Nanaimo ferry. You cannot have any rugged ocean front line up with Downtown like that from West Vancouver.

Yeah, you're right. Otherwise, we would have seen this angle many times before.

Great pics!

That one of Montreal really shows off the size and density of the city.

Well, yes, you'd need to tear down a few, but I was only talking like ten or so sprinkled in. And it needs them because I'd like to live somewhere around there and want a view.

Also there are definitely a few surface parking lots, I walked past them when I visited and even took a picture that showed one of them. Maybe it was a little to the left of this pic, but not much.

Yes, the neighbourhood is very intact but there are a few infill opportunities. There wouldn't be a need to tear anything down - at least anything nice.
