What Chad posted in just a small sliver of projects in the works. There are proposals for every significant piece of land across the City Centre (Beltline, CBD, Eau-Claire, East Village etc) by national developers and pension funds. Like Vancouver, Cgy posters don't post a lot of the proposals here and if they do you might see them once or twice, not everyday whether they're happening or not.

Wonder if this entrepreneurial city will come through with big growth in other industries, as the oil industry will stagnate for a long time by the looks of it. Another discussion though.

doubtful most of these proposals will come to fruition in the foreseeable future. not until oil posts some major gains which doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon.

Overall a good project.

The Legion - 10 storeys - 2 buildings - Hillhurst, Calgary

Not a super significant development size-wise, but this will be the redevelopment of the Royal Canadian Legion in Calgary's Kensington BRZ. It will of course include a new building for the Legion itself It is being watched across the country to see if it may be the model for the revitalization of inner city legions.

Given the amount of rental properties being proposed in Edmonton, we are going to have the same problem in a few years as well.

Calgary has a tax advantage but, overall, it's still an expensive place to run a business. Calgarians love to slip in the old entrepreneurial spirit like Torontonians and world class Sounds great but, has little substance. Going to find guys presuing big ideas just about anywhere where it's affordable to do so.

Few if any cities have their developments represented well on this page. Calgary actually has better representation than most considering the amount in development there. Just about anything gets posted at least once.

Keep in mind Calgary has such a severe shortage of rental properties that this is sorely needed.

Maybe the most impressive low-rise I have seen from Cowville.

Very impressed by the Legion building in Calgary, probably one of the better res designs I've seen there period.

Interested to see how the ground plane is treated though, as it looks like an afterthought so far.

That Burlington proposal should be showing up in the ugly Canada thread. Did the design team draw up four different options and then paste them all together? I should like the narrow lined podium treatment, but I don't because it doesn't relate to anything else. It's just a mess of four different concepts in one. Focus. It needs focus.

So far everyone in the Calgary section loves the Legion proposal but we're all bracing for the inevitable community blow back and subsequent butchering of the proposal to appease the NIMBY's.
As an example this POS known as St. John's on 10th in the heart of Hillhurst / Sunnyside was the unfortunate result of community consultation.

Putting that green spandrel on there was mind blowingly stupid. The rest of the building looks alright.

EDIT - I can't stop staring at it. It's such a train wreck.

Proposal on the west side of Ottawa's CBD; 27 storey hotel and a 23 storey residential tower.

The current proposal includes the demolition of the two hotel towers and residential apartment building, which will be replaced with separate residential and hotel towers. The existing office tower will remain, with minor interior and exterior improvements proposed at grade level. The two proposed towers, designed by WZMH Architects, will share a common podium, entry plaza and parking access. The podium is comprised of grade level retail, hotel amenities and private residential amenities.

At 250 units, the residential tower occupies the northwest portion of the site and sits on a six (6)-storey podium base with an overall height of 77.55 metres (23 floors plus mechanical) and a total Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 14,744m2. The proposed 303 suite hotel tower is located on the southwest corner, at Queen Street and Bay Street, with an overall height of 84.55 metres (27 floors plus mechanical) including a three (3)-storey podium with a total GFA of 18,618m2.

Be better with another floor shifting the step backed terraces to the 3rd floor. Still well massed infill.
