I looked it up in the Criminal Code just to see what the exact text says.

Quote:
Endangering safety of aircraft or airport

77. Every one who

(d) places or causes to be placed on board an aircraft in service anything that is likely to cause damage to the aircraft, that will render it incapable of flight or that is likely to endanger the safety of the aircraft in flight,

(g) endangers the safety of an aircraft in flight by communicating to any other person any information that the person knows to be false,

is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for life.
And any argument that (g) is not fulfilled is rendered moot by the injuries sustained during the evac of WS442. You have most certainly endangered safety by unnecessarily making people go down the slides.

Criminal Code - R.S.C., 1985, c. C-46 (Section 77)

Saw a bit of yesterday and more now - on Twitter people are talking about cancelling/postponing travel plans with WestJet. This is terrorism.

Those people on Twitter are absolute idiots! It's not WS' fault that people are doing this, they're the victims! In fact, they should be happy flying WestJet especially with the way they have handled this and the extra precautions they'll take because of this! Damn fools...

Ehhh. I dunno. Yeah it's great that they're handling it perfectly, but you can't blame somebody for not wanting to fly an airline who has had bomb threats called in 3 days in a row. Would I cancel an unmovable WJ booking that I had coming up soon? Unlikely. If able, would I flex it till later in the month? Yeah. Would I book a trip with WJ in the upcoming days unless it was essential travel? Probably not.

I've been in the industry for a little while now and tend to not think of myself as an idiot, but until we have at least some idea of what's happening and where this might lead, I'd be very aware of my reasoning for boarding a WS aircraft.

Where did they land that they had to use slides? Surely most airports that WestJet normally services has air stairs sitting around.

That's not why. It was disorganized, slides popped, and people just started going. WS442

Six passengers were injured during the emergency evacuation. To get everyone off the plane as quickly as possible, WestJet used the inflatable emergency slides on the plane.

Well the FA's were shouting 'evacuate' so the intention was for everyone to go. But i guess the rear slides didn't go so it was kind of a log jam at the front. Whatever. They haven't let that happen in the 2 since the Winnipeg one.

Doubtful that it was the FA's doing the evacuation order. If the FAs did give the evacuation order without orders from pilot in command, I hope they have a lot of time recently freed up for stampede.

I understand the passengers have said it was the FAs but I'm skeptical of the statement. If the FAs gave the order then both the front and back slides should have been opened. But most importantly, the evac order comes from the pilot in command once the engines have shut down. Otherwise FAs would be sending the pax directly to the meat grinder.

Anytime slides are deployed someone will get hurt, mostly on the sudden stop at the end will cause ankles and knees to break.

I don't know if I would consider that delayed or not. Crews are still being trained and at best would have been looking at late July at the earliest anyway for that to happen. So another week or two is not a huge deal.

The story said there were less than 60 passengers, so maybe they were moved up from the last rows?

Another WS threat

Today WS1709 LAS-YYJ

From twitter:

@WestJet: Confirm YYJ received bomb threat against our aircraft #WS1709. Worked with regulatory & law enforcement agencies and deemed not credible.

This is the fifth threat in a week.

AC had a threat yesterday listed in CADORS they decided not to tell anybody about. So it's...

6/25 AC143 YYT-YOW
6/27 WS391 YHZ-YEG
6/29 WS442 YEG-YYZ
6/30 WS323 YYZ-YXE
7/1 AC623 YHZ-YYZ
7/1 WS722 YVR-YYZ
7/2 WS1709 LAS-YYJ

So both airlines together it's 7 threats in 8 days.

This is now absolutely ridiculous. Feel so bad for WS and AC.

I find myself wondering exactly what the nature of AC's threat yesterday was, because unless the people calling in are checking CADORS... is keeping these under wraps (as well as you can) the best strategy? Doesn't help if somebody is actually planning to blow something up but IMO a more likely scenario is that it's a person/people just getting off on seeing the published reports of their threat. If you eliminate that completely I wonder if it would help.

Probably impossible to keep a lid on 100+ pax after their interviews with law enforcement, however.

In answer to your question i have bolded above, abso-freakin-lutly is better to keep these bomb hoax incidents under wraps. AC has been doing this for well over 30 years. Since I was a little kid i can always remember my dad not coming home from his job as AC Airport Manager because some nutcase would call in a prank. I was also always told never to repeat this information at school, lest anyone find out (for the record the cute blonde girl two desks infront of me called the CBC civic reporter Daddy).

The twitter fest that is happening nightly at Westjet account is just exacerbating the situation. However its just not Westjet style to suppress and threaten the media, additionally today's social media situation is a lot more fliud than from thirty years ago, but AC623 proves the truth cna be kept out of the media spotlight.

It's such an interesting thing and likely detrimental thing WS PR is doing. Right down to needlessly tweeting that the pax got Tims and Panago at YYC and they were rebooked for the redeyes or being put up in YYC if they so desired.

The whole sentiment I get from reading WS Twitter/fb this week is "nobody handles bomb threats better than WestJetters!" when "I'm sorry, what?" is the better option.

Quote:
We can confirm that Victoria International Airport received a bomb threat against our aircraft operating ‪#‎WS1709‬ from Las Vegas to Victoria tonight. In conjunction with regulatory and law enforcement agencies the threat was deemed non-credible.
Everybody is already out the door and this incident is over. No post from an airline should start "We can confirm..." unless you're providing phone numbers for people to call cause you lost an airplane. I wonder what the tweets would have looked like when WS was admitting to stealing from AC in '04.

First sked flight was supposed to be Aug 2. No, not a big delay (2 more weeks), just wanted to give people a heads up not to expect it in YYC until after July 15 sometime

KLM

Amsterdam – Calgary eff 29FEB16 Boeing 777-200ER replaces A330-200 for the remainder of winter season, 6 weekly

http://airlineroute.net/2015/07/04/kl-w15update4/

My initial thought is that YEG-AMS is not negatively affecting YYC which is good. Looks like this may have more to do with movement in the KLM fleet, 789 will free up this 772 as they takeover on AMS-CAI and AMS-DXB.

the leases on 3 of KL's A332 expire this year.

Havana is also going from A332 to A333. YUL is also going daily A333 next summer, compared to 6x A333/ 1x A332. Kigali and Entebbe are also moving to A333 next summer.

Two or three more A332s will leave the fleet in 2016. So it's only normal for KL to start upgauging existing A332 routes, as it is their smallest widebody, and since they only have 5 A333s, next up is the B772.

First few B787-9s should come online soon as well, but none are planned to North America for now.

The day CAI's 772 ends is the day we get it. Suggests that's indirectly our frame.
