Its close enough to Lougheed IMO. We dont need stations every 300 / 500 meters along the line.

Definitely. All these extra stations various groups/people want would add a lot of time to a trip if introduced. If you don't want to walk 5 minutes from the station, you can take the bus.

Unless it's Vancouver - they need a stop at least every other block, and an entrance on each corner...

Likely between Waterfront and King George to get a thorough break-in while still under warranty.
I've always expected other than a token train or two that the new MkIIIs will be on the Waterfront-King George line. Since it's one unit it can't be decoupled like two MkII sets.

They've mentioned frequency over size and 3m headways (over the 6m on the M-Line today) so I'm expecting 2-car MkII and maybe some 4-car MkI sets.

The new, larger MkIIIs would mostly see service where it's needed, the Waterfront to King George segment.

I don't think there's enough time to certify the Mk IIIs to have them in service by the end of the year. Delivery is estimated for 'by the end of the year' the last I read. I imagine that they'll want to do at least a few months of testing before they enter revenue service.

Cameron Station is not happening. They didn't build the line tall enough since Burnaby and the province couldn't come to a funding arrangement, thus, there is no provision for a future station there.

Never say never. Even if there is no provision for it now, they could always add a "siding" type of station, at much more expense later. Burnaby *shakes head*

Well, sure, it's technically possible.. I mean, they could rebuild that section of guideway and the approaches to it later on down the road as well, it's just not very likely to happen.

Cameron would still be a great place to have a station. That area of Lougheed will end up being very dense and because of the hill 500-600m ends up feeling more like 900-1200m for most people.

Are the MKIII for sure going to be 4 car sets? Is there actual confirmation, or is it just hype and rumor built on speculation and innuendos?

I'm also thinking Translink might be getting worried about the quality of the ride through the Evergreen tunnel. The MKI and II aren't the most noise insulated trains in the world (probably the least). The noise is already at almost criminal levels when you go through the tunnels in New Westminster. I can't imagine what it will sound like going through a 2km long tunnel.

If the MK III trains are that much better built, and only 2 car sets, they might be considering putting them on the Evergreen just because of the tunnel. There was a post a little while back about how Translink was boasting they would be more quiet.

They'll be in four-car configurations:

TransLink said these cars will operate in a four-car long articulated train configuration, meaning passengers can walk from one end of the four-car train to the other. This will be a first for the SkyTrain system.

The four-car config has been confirmed many times including in comments made on FB by TransLink... I think the leaked BCRTC business plan may also confirm it.

The quietness is due to the use of micro-door plugs as opposed to the doors being outside the car with no sealing whatsoever. It was in a PDF report somewhere on the Innovia Metro 300 series cars (or maybe it was on Google Books, in any case I would've posted it at some point on these forums), so I've known this for awhile now.

It's been well known for months now that the trains will come in a 4-car articulated configuration...

Your comment spurred me to invoke Google, through which I learned that a "plug door" is the type that is used on aircraft - it's larger than its opening and is held in place like by pressure rather like a plug in a sink drain.

It'll be very interesting to see how these work and perform, both in terms of reduced noise and how well they handle the snow that so plagued the Mark I doors.

The guideway grade is too high to ever accommodate a station at that location now.

Thats what buses, bikes, and taxis are for.

Also, Canadians are a little "thick" as it is, a little extra walking may be good for many.

Plus it is downhill one way and up the other, so it evens out

Skytrain is a system acting as a metro and as a semi-commuter rail, if stations start becoming too close together then much of skytrain's advantages are gone.

This is one of the problems I have with the Canada line, as is I would take one or two stations out of that line, and now they want to slowly add three more... even though this has been budgeted into its future travel times, all the extra starting and stopping will be annoying.

Instead lets start building more bike lockers / racks at train stations (and get tough on crack heads so bike theft goes down) and drop off / pick up zones for cars and taxis (bus stops are already there) and keep our further station spacing.

You couldn't even do a side platform station. There's no flat portion on North Road for the station because of Burnaby refusing to pay anything.

The idea of a future station would have had a flat/nearly flat section to build the station later. Burnaby whined and so it was cut out.

Wasn't the dollar amount that Burnaby refused to pony up to seal the deal so miniscule (in the greater scheme of things) that it was essentially just a difference of approximately....

Derek Corrigan would rather play hardball and screw his city out of the Cameron Station rather than compromise with the *gasp* BC Liberals! Politics...

It's not like the city couldn't afford it... look at all those dang condo towers, and the lack of rental units >_< . I'm totally sure a developer would have just outright paid for the station if it meant having it to build a development around.

At any rate my suggestion of a "Siding type station" would literately be adding two switches in each direction, pulling the cars onto a new level section, (thus taking up twice as much space, as having done it properly the first time) possibly beside or above the existing tracks. It would just slow things down since the trains would have to slow down before reaching the switch. It's essentially adding another 120m+ of guideway that didn't need to be added.

Like it wasn't meant to be a "Oh they could add a station anywhere if the felt like it", rather that it is MUCH MUCH more expensive to accommodate design changes after the project is completed.

Much like the Gondola project... Corrigan says no, so that means we will have to wait until he and his wife both retire from politics before any change happens in Burnaby.
