I'm dying for any kind of update on either CCH or AUC. Do we still think Omni is going to come through on the CCH, or will it go back out with a revised RFP? I wonder when Ken can share the hotel group that he has lined up for AUC? I really want to see both of these developments come together and start coming out of the ground, the sooner the better!

While I guess it's just a place holder, the garden greenery is actually quite nice on that corner. Ha, if it were L.A., it would most likely be a chain link fence and a lot of trash until developed.

I drove by the soccer complex a few weeks ago but failed to get any pics so I'm glad someone else got some. I would like to see that west area between downtown and davis county fill in a little more. I think this is a good project to get people down there.

I hope that the complex gets used by both SLC and Southern Davis County. As a soccer dad, I hope that Utah Youth Soccer will start putting more summer tournaments there instead of the West Jordan soccer complex. The West Jordan complex is terrible for soccer tournaments and they are not able to host regional tournaments.
The SLC Regional Athletic Complex (I guess this is the name the city is using) will be able to handle large regional tournaments that can be a big boost to the area.

The only problem that I see is that there is nothing else around the area and there probably won't be much around there for a long time. Even though there aren't restaurants close by, the city (or soccer clubs) could capitalize on it by setting up food stands and carts for busy game days and tournaments.

A lot of work has gone into the fields over the past couple years and they look great. I think this is going to be a real gem for the city and area and will be a place that will be used a lot.

A few days ago I rode the TRAX Redline out to Daybreak and back to the city. I noticed that there really has been little growth there and zero growth near the stops dedicated for the development.

What amazed me after 2 years was the real progress in de-industrializing the blue and red lines. Old light industrial warehouses and facilities have been leveled to make way for really dense apartment and condo developments. It's actually out of control and amazing. Transit along old freight lines is kind of awesome in that it's cheap but it also seems to motivate de-industrialization in those areas. Half of the light industry along those routes seems abandoned anyway.

I started really thinking about this and wondering what light industry (once the backbone of utah) will look like in 20 years. We know that the population of Utah will double here in 20 years and more than half of that increase will happen in Utah Valley alone. It's safe to say that Salt Lake City has less land but a lot of jobs and Ogden has a lot of land and fewer jobs. Light industry tends to do well in places with cheap land near transportation and in areas with less jobs. So I'd be interested to see if Ogden re-industrializes during the next 20 years. And with the demand for housing in the Salt Lake Valley, I foresee only a continued need to replace light industry and 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 strip malls with dense housing.

It's going to be an interesting time.

There is more construction than ever going on here. At this rate they should easily have another beam or maybe even two in place by the time 111 is compleat! Well maybe not by the time it's complete... But certainly by the time it's fully leased and complete.

My favorite is when we convert unused factories to vegetable factories. But the poor ag industry will loose jobs when they become obsolete! What will we do?

There is always a need for more land to grow food on. If I had the money I would definitely fund vertical farms and repurpose a building in a downtown area to be one. Imagine a 10+ story building and the first floor is a store selling the fresh produce being grown above. People may say it would be expensive to grow things that way but once you put a store at its base you have removed the logistics side of the costs that other stores deal with.

You also have MUCH higher crop yields with vertical farming, and because it's organic, non-gmo you can increase profits even further. There are so many reasons why vertical farming is such a great idea. You produce the food where it's consumed, driving down shipping costs, as well as a longer shelf life because you don't lose time with shipping. It also uses far less water than traditional, land farming. Here in California, vertical farming could play a huge role in solving the drought crisis, as traditional farming is what is using up most of the water.

Well, I noticed today that SLC seems to be on a path to one less surface parking lot. The surface lot at Edison (~250 E) and Broadway (300 S) has been removed, next to Copper Onion... anyone know what's going in there?

Oh that's fantastic news! I have no idea though... maybe it'll just be a new shinier parking lot.
