Kwantlen University is going into 3 Civic and SFU Surrey is not "small", it is over 350,000 square feet of space and houses 7,500 students. Sure it isn't SFU Burnaby campus or UBC, but that area of Surrey is where the Universities are and the road is named such. SFU also plans to expand the Surrey campus quite a bit in coming years. So not quite as stupid as you think.

Yes I know the road is named university which does sound better than whalley ring road lol. Still not feeling much of a district there. Maybe in the future

Luffing cranes are less efficient as it takes more moves to lift the same load, although they have a variable radius so they take up less space. Flat top cranes take up more space but can get the job done quicker. Maybe having two flat top cranes that close actually hinders productivity due to interference with one another, so they compromise and get the best of both worlds. Because the flat top crane is more efficient they remove the luffing crane first.

The luffing crane is just for the Church part of the project, it will most likely be taken down earlier.

They are using the same luffing crane that they used for Sovereign for this project.

Luffing cranes are also used where you need more precise control of ground placement. You can control the load far better than with a tower crane.

They are using the crane for the church portion of the building and I'd imagine it is just because building a church typically requires more precision as they design with more elaborate architecture compared to a residential/office tower which is just slabs of concrete and repetition.

I wonder how many buyers took back their offers after reading the disclosure statement and noticing the small blurb about the church on site.

I visited the show room and was not told about it. Also on their model it does not show a church lol
