As a guy who worked on Regent and Main Streets for ten years with the Salt Lake Tribune, this is beyond my wildest dreams for that piece of land. That's a groundbreaking design for SLC, and perfectly sited to bring life to Regent Street and the Gallivan Center and City Creek and Harmons...wow. Just love everything about it. I've sacrificed many cats for this to happen. May it go forward with expediency.

I'm running out of cats.

I also think this makes it even more pertinent that some sort of covering (green walls, cladding, something) go up on the Regent Street and Walker Center garages. They've been ugly forever, but on the back sides of the major streets. This and the other development on Regent, if successful, will demand some sort of facelift for the fugliness.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing Jedi. I cringe every time I see that northward view from Gallivan, looking across to the Walker garage façade. A beautiful vintage style design like this upscale Hotel, deserves something creative done along Regent and 2nd with those garages.

I've often wondered why it wouldn't be possible to create a shallow façade of studios and single apartments at the front of that Walker garage. Sure, they'd lose a few parking spaces, but I think the demand for studio apartments there, if creatively designed, could be a big win. There are a lot of other underdeveloped plots in the immediate vicinity that could accommodate a future, more effeciently designed parking structure.

Yeah yeah yeah, new development news is all well and good but can we please get back to discussing why we hate/love Mormons and debating why my white kids look so strange?

Seriously though, this hotel looks amazing. Very urban and will look very classy downtown. Regent Street should be awesome in a few years. I really hope that this and AUC get built right away.

Let's just hope this is a legitimate project. I think it's great - but until I actually see it rising, I'm not going to get too excited just yet.

My office overlooks the walker building and garage and the garage itself is TREMENDOUSLY under utilized as is the mega garage behind the promise valley playhouse. I'm sure the midblock garage adjacent to Orpheum ave. will be highly utilized when 111 opens but I see no reason your idea couldn't be done... there's already a under utilized commercial space for vehix.com on the top floor of the walker building.

I propose the following. Since the actual development to bitching ratio is so off on this forum and every time I look at this forum my eyeballs get plastered with lame ads, I suggest that Aisies1981, aka slcitynews.com, create a forum on his website and we all start using it.

Also, I mainly go to his site now to find what's going on in SLC and the surrounding area, so I don't have to weed through all the baby talk on this forum.

There really are to many threads though. CCC certainly does not need its own thread any more.

I would be very willing to combine the Sugar House thread with SLC. Since I created the Sugar House thread, I'll work it out with the moderator, if the big majority of you guys give me the go ahead. These days I'm always of the inclination to be in favor of creating the most activity possible for the SLC thread.

Someone create a poll for combining the Salt Lake City neighborhood of Sugar House into the SLC Development Thread.

Any open forum without micro-managing moderators is binky ready.
Just enjoy your personal decision to visit SLCity as needed.
