I noticed 2 new(?) signs downtown the other day -
@ 900 Howe - "Atelier" (I saw it looking west up Smithe St.)
@ 888 Dunsmuir - can't recall what it said (could be "People's Trust"), but was on the north side of the building (saw it from Pender St.)

It's been there since AON departed awhile ago.

Atelier owns the building.

And I have my answer regarding the former Tony Roma's site - it will become a park (maybe only a temporary park)

Is that the old Tony Roma's site in the foreground on the right of the pic below?

And of course the old Umberto's further back.

"Peoples Group" at the corner of Dunsmuir and Hornby.

I certainly looks like the beginning of a temporary roof over the whole building.

I thought they were just adding a bell tower?

*update*
http://www.anglicanjournal.com/articles/...1-million-to-cathedral-building-campaign

Cathedral getting new 100-year roof, so a temporary 'tent' is being put over building to keep the rain out during construction.

Anyone have any idea what 'People's Group' is? I've never heard of it and Google isn't very useful either.

Edit: Found it, seems to be a local bank.

Thanks for the pics!

Yes, Tony Roma's was in the foreground of your shot.
It'll be interesting to see if they eventually build something on that site and if it is connected to the rest of the site.

The expansion at Beach Towers is on hold:

Quote:
“Devonshire Properties has decided not to proceed with the construction of the new rental units and new recreation centre proposed for Beach Towers. As a result there will be no demolition activity, nor any requirement to relocate tenants’ parking stalls and storage lockers at this time,” the notice, which was dated June 5 and signed Beach Towers Properties through Devonshire Properties Inc, reads. “Should the project be reactivated, ample notification will be provided and tenant information meetings will be held.”

More details and a possible rendering of 1500 West Georgia in the Globe today.

Looks like Vancouver could be getting another proposal for a pretty iconic tower?

Nice find.
Thanks for posting!

That will contrast incredibly with the triangular 1500 West Georgia building.
If they modified the floorplates to be triangular or angled to the grid, I think it would work better.
The mechanical penthouse of 1500 West Georgia juts out the top and could blend with the ins and outs of the new tower.

Ole Sheeren is the architect of the Beijing CCTV Tower and the Interlace building in Singapore.

So this ups the ante for Westbank and Wall Financial on the blocks to the south.

German-born achitect Ole Scheeren has designed a striking tower that would stand around 50 stories
and include glass horizontal projections that will soak up panoramic views of the West End and Coal Harbour.

That looks great. For a second there I thought that was a proposal for a tower along Central Park in NYC.

Yeah, that is Manhattan-esque! As a reminder, this is the site in question. I think the Wall project will be just another condo tower, but this could be a landmark this part of Downtown needs!

Interesting pieces from the article:

"There will be a public plaza, an outdoor event space, restaurant or gallery, as well as an extended version of the well-known water feature that now exists."

"It will go beyond LEEDS platinum certification by generating solar power on the top levels that will provide power to the two bottom commercial floors."

"And Mr. Scheeren plans to create an outdoor space that will become a destination for everybody, not just residents of the tower. “Although we are putting a private residential tower there, I wanted to give more to the public.""

Yeah, I was wondering how they could "extend" the water feature and have a plaza.
Your pic makes me wonder even more...
Maybe the tower will be on stilts with a deck over the pond?

I've never noticed the driveway along the back of the retail building before.
