This was early Sunday morning and I think there was even some event in the city that day. Normally those parking spaces are well utilized. I also like how the bikelane is implemented on Richard Street. Very safe for the cyclists.

BMO Marathon was on Sunday morning. And that bike lane is excellent, it feels like a separated lane and it's much nicer as a rider to be next to the sidewalk instead of between parked cars and traffic.

Any residents on that street have their own private parkades. Metered street parking is entirely sensible given that Richards is sandwiched between the Yaletown commercial district and Granville Street.

Looks like the city is giving the Harbour Green restaurant another go, they have it out to tender, looks like they are shopping for an operator to build it out... Kind of interesting approach.

Cool, thanks for posting.

********

WRT the Richards St. Bike Lane - and all it needed was paint and signage to implement!

Grosvenor International ihas bought the Umberto's Il Giardino site.

And I have my answer regarding the former Tony Roma's site - it will become a park (maybe only a temporary park)

Grosvenor Properties eyes Downtown South development
Grosvenor Properties is cooking up a new plan for the site of Umberto Menghi’s fabled Il Giardino restaurant
By Peter Mitham
May 5, 2015
...
Grosvenor purchased the property last year from Seacliff Properties Ltd., which had acquired it and a handful of adjacent parcels from W.P.J. McCarthy and Co. in January 2013.

Demolition fences now surround the property and the former Tony Roma’s premises on Pacific Boulevard, which will become a park while Grosvenor consults the community regarding the site’s future.

Menghi originally hoped to develop an 18-storey boutique hotel on the site, preserving the landmark yellow Leslie House, built in 1888, for the hotel’s entrance. But towering costs nixed the plans, and the assembly acquired by Seacliff required another rezoning.

Now, the rezoning falls to Grosvenor, which intends to incorporate Leslie House within its development plans. Those plans will be discussed with the community, with updates on the project posted online at grosvenorpacific.com.

Thanks for the update. As long as there are those wooden telephone/power poles, that corner is not going to truly have the luxury look or feel that the developers want. Also, the sidewalk needs to be redone and street trees (a proper specie that will grow tall and stately) need to be planted.

That's exactly what I've said. You're totally right!! That's GOT to happen before this 'hood turns truly upscale.

I know they're adding a bell tower - otherwise probably roof repairs?

A bell tower!! Wow!! Any renders anywhere?

aha! Found it. It's modern style. I had hoped for something more traditional, but the peal of downtown churchbells will be awesome.

They're using the Big Ben melody. A bit copycat, but enjoyable - and respectfully traditional - nonetheless.

Holy Rosary Cathedral over on Dunsmuir has church bells on Sunday already. Given that Vancouver is quite secular I am actually surprised that there isn't a coalition opposing church bells because they are "too religious". I personally enjoy the ambiance they bring to the city.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere: http://former.vancouver.ca/ctyclerk/cclerk/20150513/documents/cfsc3.pdf

The feds are looking at more than doubling the square footage of Sinclair Centre to to consolidate services in one location.

Quote:
The provision of up to approximately 100,000 m2 or 1.1 million ft2 of office space and the complex is envisaged as a hub of federal government services (currently there is approximately 40,000 m2 or 390,000 ft2 of floor space in Sinclair Centre).
A Proposed FSR up to 17.0 – 20.0 FSR.
LEED Gold for new construction and LEED Silver or Gold for renovations of existing buildings.
The development will adhere to the City’s urban design considerations, including the View Corridors which limit maximum height to no more than 106.7 m (350 ft.) or approximately 29 commercial storeys.

Interesting. Any ideas what is going there? Services now in Library Square maybe?

Does the big CBSA office at Central on Main do passports/Nexus now?

O.O wow, another unexpected infill office building.
I didn't think we'd see an addition to that complex.

Ah yes, the "tolerant left". It does surprise me that they haven't gotten the city to ban church bells. Or crosses on the exterior of churches (it might offend atheists and Muslims).
