Architecture doesn't matter when all you're concerned about is driving from point A to point B as quickly as possible.

That Vancouver casino is unfortunate. Give the stadium a striking appearance and then cover it with a 1980s bore.

Here's a preview of a new proposal coming down the pipe for Halifax. The interesting thing about this one is that the lot frontage is only about 16 meters.

I think he was referring to the already built low rises surrounding it if I were to guess. The worst is that wood 4 story right beside the new stadium. That will stand out horribly when the area is properly built out with slick new high rises.

Strangely enough I like the red glass. Kind of similar to that tower from Moscow. The trick is it needs the right form or it ends up looking like that shit from Niagara Falls.

Love all the mid and low rises going up in Halifax! I think that city punches well above it's weight on how urban it feels.

Clearly you've never been to Plaza of Nations - nor BC Place for that matter. Lucky you. I took the expo line to work past BC place every day, and regardless of ones politics on its new roof, it never really turned out as striking to us. Definitely an expensive and utilitarian-looking upgrade though. Bringing the casino there is logical - it'll be easily accessible from Stadium-Chinatown, and the post-game revellers can walk a few steps to continue the fun at the poker tables and slots.

I've seen both before and after. I prefer the look of the new roof. I'd also like the casino more if it too took a utilitarian approach instead of one which tries to be flashy on an obviously conservative budget. The two toned copper/bronze and clear/green glass accentuated by curved corners is one I'd rather not see resurrected from late seventies and early eighties typically infill design.

The multi-billion dollar casino resorts are something to behold. These smaller casinos get overblown as a destination magnet. Growth has been stagnant for years. Grossly overbuilt in this part of the continent too.

I really like the podium on the Berkeley. Those Port Dover proposals are quite nice too. Better than a lot of the low/mid rise infill that Edmonton is getting these days.
