I mean just look at how far this is. Worst seats in the house. Take the existing seating footprint and you make it a giant concourse/meeting space for half time/rumhut and then have a some tables and stools at the end. From their you can drop down 2 levels of party decks or whatever. seating gets lowered 8k-10k or so to better reflect the modern needs of Edmonton and the Eskimos. And commonwealth adds another modern touch to a great stadium

They are decent for football... I sat there for the 2002 Grey Cup and while it was obvious why they were cheap seats, I could still see the game just fine.

Those party decks are the devil... filled with people standing around, socializing and not watching the game, but they do make loads of money which is why I suspect that the City of Edmonton will ultimately do exactly what you're describing.

I doubt it. Edmonton isn't known for doing cool things. Another plus is they would have virtually all the seats necessary for a new soccer stadium for EFC.

Italy seemed to love running tracks in the 90s and early 2000's as well. Yet none of them were ever used.

Thankfully stadiums are being redeveloped to remove the running track.

We have used to have 'party decks' at each end, they closed the north end bar which cut much of that out and made the south better party deck service seating pseudo boxes.

How is the revenue handled? Is FIFA renting the stadiums? Is there a split on ticket revenue? Who gets concessions revenue? Who gets parking revenue?............

Thought it was ridiculous myself when they first announced these games. Only conclusion I can come to is the limited availability of CFl stadiums in late June and July. BC Place, Commonwealth and Lansdowne would all be unavailable until July for the CFL. Add in Rogers Centre and Tim Hortons field being unavailable in late July and you have a severe shortage of CFL stadiums for the early portion of the season. One solution is to limit the number of women's world cup soccer games at one of the stadiums to ensure CFL games can be played there from the get go. Since Investors hosts a CFL team and Moncton doesn't it makes sense for Winnipeg to bow out of tournament hosting duties early on.

Really hoping Canada wins group A and can make it to the semi-final on July 1st in Edmonton. What a game that would be on Canada day.

FIFA gets most cash before the fact with the organizing committee then tasked to make money off seats and concessions. FIFA puts heavy rules on what you can do though. We had a contact for Women's U-20 and FIFA made us swap beer to only Budweiser, and we had to dump our Ginger Ale and Dr Pepper drinks. You have to physically not have any product or signage for competing brands so we had to print new signage for the event which was a pain in the ass.

I don't think you make much money off this if any (likely barely breaking even is the goal), which explains why the CSA was running things on the cheap with the turf fiasco. This is all preludes to a hopeful Men's WC which makes profit.

This is why not having games in the GTA will doom this tourney. You have big international populations here that will go see a random New Zealand vs Nigeria game. Canadians will only care for Canada and looking to see the USA loose, I see little traction for the other teams.

I'm probably going to the England/France, Mexico/Colombia double header next Tuesday. The on site box office is open. The only thing I'm worried about is the weather. I'm not a rabid soccer fan, so I'm sort of waiting for a reliable weather forecast.

They've configured the Moncton Stadium with some end zone seating, so I figure they can fit about 14,000 in for the game.

But in Germany 2011 they only had 16 teams not 24 like Canada aka less games. This is the first tournament with 24 teams. So while they had 850 000 it was to less games therefore higher average. Also china 2007 had 1.15 million at a 16 team tournament.

Don't get me wrong I want to see it succeed. Hopefully we can hit that 1.2 million number and surpass China as well as the 2007 u20 mens in Canada(which was also a 24 team tournament).

Attendance no doubt would have been higher had Toronto or Hamilton been in the mix.
