For Salt Lake, it's huge. When we talk about buildings in Salt Lake, we're not talking about them as if they're being built in Chicago. Buildings over 300 feet make an impact in our skyline.

That's like saying the tallest building in Philadelphia isn't really that exciting because the Burj Khalifa is over 2.5 times taller than it, so why are you getting excited for something that is less than 1000 feet? It's all about perspective, so while this new building may not be all that exciting in the tallest skyscraper areas, this forum is specific to SLC and it is pretty exciting for that location.

...the other place I've noticed its visibility is from the west side--coming in from the airport or going by on I-15/215, 111 is already making a visual impact in that pronounced gap in our skyline. And that's just the core, which still has a ways to go. With construction finished, a crown, and lights--it'll add significantly to the skyline, even if it's not a new tallest for us.

First- I don't think anyone has already posted about this. If so I apologize, but they are taking applications for the artwork on Regent Street.

I am excited to see what comes from this. Hopefully this and some of the businesses that are going to be back there can help to ensure Regent will have its full potential for helping the area.
Second- I fully agree that 111 doesn't need to and shouldn't be compared to buildings in bigger cities. I have grown up in Utah and fully agree that 111 is going to and is already making a HUGE impact on the skyline in Salt Lake. If you were in Wyoming a 10 story building would most likely make a HUGE impact on the skyline, 111 does that for Salt Lake. I don't think anyone was trying to say it was a huge building. Only that it is great for Salt Lake, and I think it's more than fair for people to be excited to watch it change the skyline. I know I am at least excited to see it going up. Every time I am near the area I find myself looking to see how it is helping fill in the skyline.

To be honest I probably should have given a first aloha instead of just coming on here and sharing my opinion to you SLC forum folk. I moved here from the Austin area, in Round Rock, about a month ago for work, was previously living in the LA area for a couple years prior to that. I have a ton of family here so I have visited Utah about two to three times a year ever since I was a kid. I am very familiar with the Wasatch Front area. I have been following skyscraper forums for a few years now and finally decided to join after I had got settled in. I'm looking forward to contributing and sharing my straight forward opinion. Mahalo!
