Actually, that is the first time I noticed the height - 575.........that is a lot taller than I would have thought. Almost a 600 footer. If it gets built I would guess that it will be the tallest for some time as all of our tallest at P&M have generally out done each other by a few feet.

I think it is interesting they previously had ground level retail/restaurants planned with the grocery on the second floor. Now the grocery is on the main floor with what seems to be three floors of offices with four full levels of parking. Isn't that total podium height also higher that previously announced?

I was told that the podium was to be 7 storeys.

Yeah, 575' is getting into a fairly tall range... that would be enough for number 2 in Vancouver (soon to be 3 in Vancouver with Trump under way) or tied for 6th in Montreal with the Olympic Tower. It would really stand head and shoulders above the rest of the skyline.

Yeah, SMM is a solid firm with a long track record of projects completed, will it give this project more traction/credibility and help it get out of the ground? I don't think so. Is it a good addition of a local firm to this proposal and the experience they bring to the table, yes.

Yup, the initial proposals specs listed the podium at 7, now they went public with the change to 8.

In the most recent newsletter (which oddly isn't up on the website yet) in addition to the aforementioned September opening of the presentation centre they also mention that the scale model of the building will be 8 ft tall.

I really hope this gets built. It would be nice to see a meaningful change to our skyline.

The model was announced @ 7 went to 8 ft. changed in the OP the other day.

Since this project was announced the grocer was always listed at 25K sq/ft. The change is in how they're listing it now, 25K for both grocer/retail. It's vague. Office space from the initial announcements actually went down. The parking is anyone's guess at this point. It was 4 up, 1 under, now with the description they're giving it could change either way depending on the interest in the development. Again, there's not enough information released to actually tell definitively what will happen/ if or when it does.

^ If Winnipeg development history is any indication, they will waste no time levelling the St. Regis and turning it into a parking lot (temporary, of course)... the first thing is always to demolish the existing buildings, then figure out everything else later.

Any word on the price?

Also being reported is the sale includes a small surface parking lot on Garry St. to Venexo Corp for $650k. It will be used for the Norris Block project as part of plans by the Pint.

^^ Likely as their "on site construction office". It will "only be a gravel parking lot for workers". Then later, "as our construction start date has been delayed (due to slow sales/city red tape/etc) we are seeking approval to operate a commercial parking lot on the site for the next two years." Thirty years later some out of town developer with fly in with some grand vision for how they are going to develop the site...

So be it, the St Regis is no loss if demolished or not in my mind. A parking lot in the short term would be somewhat unfortunate, price, plans for said location?..more news to inevitably follow...

I'd say it's a loss... enlarging the city's worst patch of surface parking is not a win in my books.
