Clearly there is something brewing here. Met Life would not amass such an assemblage just for the sake of land ownership. Just months ago Kaiser Permanente announced that they will be locating a 1000 IT jobs a few blocks away. I also think that this would be a great location for a condo tower. With the right mix of retail and residential blended in to the commercial space, this could potentially be a game changer for the "Uptown" area of Midtown.

It also helps that this assemblage is one block from the MARTA Arts Center subway station. We must also keep in mind the proposed apartment tower at the northwest corner of W. Peachtree @ 15th St, the hotel tower at the southeast corner of W. Peachtree @ 15th St and the development of land/air rights at the Arts Center Station. I am truly thrilled that this location and its potential is back in the news.
You make a good point here. This development, combined with Atlantic Station recently putting their remaining parcels on the market, and therefore potentially expanding eastward, would really bridge the gap between Midtown and Atlantic Station.

Another project on the DRC agenda for Tuesday in that area that would also help bridge that gap.

Is this the Dewberry property?? If so, you'll excuse me if I don't hold my breath.

Nope. This is on the other side of Peachtree.

Rumor - Major High-tech HQ Relocation

I spoke to a friend who is very connected into the commercial real estate scene. Apparently Atlanta is at the top of the list for a major corporate relocation from silicon valley. He didn't mention the name, but I know that HP is in the process of splitting the company into two independant companies. Their CEO, Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay and Republican candidate from 2012, would love to move from the high taxed state of CA. This would be a significant move for Atlanta and our high tech sector.

Atlanta's tech scene is starting to grow at an accelerated rate. We've been seeing a lot more Tech startups, more Tech companies centralizing in the Atlanta core, more Tech companies getting the money to add more jobs. It really just needs that one big Tech company to relocate.

If Atlanta's Tech scene truly comes into it's own, what's stopping Atlanta at this rate? Logistics and Transportation, Media, Film and Entertainment, Business, Manufacturing,Education, Automotive, and possibly now Tech.

Agreed 100%. When I first visited a friend here in 1997 (I was living in PA at the time), I immediately got the sense that Atlanta was an up and coming place and would be for a long time. I moved here in 2000 and this is probably the most excitement I've felt in the city since I've been here.

It really does feel like the upside for Atlanta is very high right now.

I'm bursting with excitement to see what things look like in 12 months when PCM is done, the beltline has been extended and many of these new towers in Midtown begin opening.

The city certainly still has its challenges, particularly around transit, but economically it feels in quite solid shape right now.

I'd like to believe that GA will see actual tech companies relocated from elsewhere, but TX is more likely. GA and NC are second-tier tech choices.

TX is always strong competition for GA. However, companies that are global would likely prefer Atlanta for it's airport.

Frankly, I would like to see the sinuosity concept expanded to all the bridges. Looks great and is definitely scale-able!

I agree-- all of the designs were quite good-- and these are doable without sacrificing quality--

Probably wanted the one with the park on the top, I did as well. While this is the better of the two pushover designs. A new park overlooking the connector would have been something unique and cutting edge.

NFCID has plans to redo the Encore Parkway bridge near the Verizon Ampitheatre:

We just made a Calavatra 2.0. The 10th street design is still good, albeit not the amazing one which should have blatantly won. However, the RDA bridge is a total joke.

I think the 10th street proposal with the park on top was thrown in there to satisfy the voters ambitions... and it probably received the most votes... but it was never going to win (too expensive). Those are fine choices. This Courtland bridge proposal will age much better than the alternate, and be more spectacular from the Connector.

The stated budget is $3million-- the green, multi-level 10th St design was $15M-- pricing was included as one of the finalist's requirements--

I disagree- both designs are really quite good, though the Courtland Bridge is a much harder problem-- The best design won there too.

In any case, it's quite encouraging that CAP and Midtown Alliance are using design competitions to do these Bridge designs (or doing them at all)-- They are head and shoulders better that what has come before--
