So this BMO/Argos Turf/grass situation just gets more and more confusing. Now its going to be a hybrid system again?

Oh and this gives some beautiful shots of bmo

On another note. Elections are over, Flames have been out for about a week, When are we going to hear "the announcement"? this is actually starting to get annoying.

If its less than 10-12k, they may as well just dump some money into improving the Brandt Centre a bit more.
Lets forget a new Stadium in Regina, the Agridome at one time had over 7,000 fans in the rink for a game. Average attendance now is around 4,200.

It was always going to be a hybrid system for the soccer field. Desso grass master to be exact. Anywhere from 90 to 98% grass with the remainder artificial fibre woven in to increase the strength of the grass and prevent wear.

Cfl endzones would be full artificial. Some of the biggest european stadiums in the world use desso.

Opening up the vault a bit on this one... The previous ownership wasn't exactly the most community savvy. The new group is pretty bent on getting attendance/the product to a new level, so I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple years, attendance is well above where it's languishing now.

That said... I still think it's fine where it is and with a bit of TLC, will last for another decade or two before a new arena even needs to be considered.

I think it's already come out that it was mostly a negotiation tactic without much serious consideration of actually building a new arena though.

Surprisingly, the lawyers are already saying he doesn't have a chance.

As someone who has done the job (on both sides of the camera) she could have used a well placed mic flag to the forehead but those two idiots likely would have no problem attacking a woman, wherein it's the cameraman's job to start laying out a smackdown.

Never had to try it but always had the plan to use the old style sun gun (hard jagged metal with a nice hot 600 watt bulb) Cut and burn at the same time. Ouch!

That's an insight into the business I'll bet you thought you would never hear (or want to)

sorry new to the thread so ive probably missed quite a lot but couldn't help but wonder why Quebec is investing all these resources on a new arena despite not having any confirmation of a sports team occupying the space any time soon and also correct me if im wrong but didn't the NHL recently state they have no interest expanding into Quebec and are looking more towards the State of Nevada/Seattle/Hamilton and even the GTA

The NHL has never stated any serious interest in Hamilton. It's been shot down alot though. the owner of blackberry basically killed any chance of Hamilton getting a team period. They don't have an arena that is up to NHL standards.

The reason Quebec is Building the arena is on the NHL side is because The NHL looks for 3 things when expanding/relocating the market the building and the ownership. If they Don't have a building they wont even be looked at as a possible candidate. But an arena brings in more than just NHL hockey. Quebec has been pushing for an olympic bid which never would fly in the Colisee. Concerts, shows, events ect skip town because the lack of a modern arena. And then their's hockey which Canada holds a ton of tourneys for that Quebec will surely be looked at more than ever for participation.

But yes you are right they are taking a gamble on something that to me looks dead in the water. Seattle and Vegas has been mentioned by daly and Bettman time after time he even toured the new arena in vegas. Quebec has never been mentioned by any NHL brass unless asked a question which is always answered by the typical "were not interested in expansion and we don't like moving franchises" speech. Bettman doesn't mind talking about Vegas at all. He actually seems optimistic when the conversation arises. I have a feeling the NHL will expand to Seattle and Vegas. Quebec will be looked at as a last resort relocation site if the Yotes or Panthers ever run out of options completely, But we have seen in the past the NHL will fight tooth and nail to keep struggling franchises in the local area. If Markham (GTA) gets the Arena built. Then Quebec City can kiss the possibility goodbye because they have a better chance of getting 2 NFL teams then an NHL team. This is a touchy subject so watch what you say. I always get blasted by the french Canadians on this forum because they think I'm "Anti Quebec" because I don't think the NHL nor players want to be there the same way they don't want to be in my home city Edmonton or my favorite team Winnipeg, Almost every Canadian city rounds out the top 5 of places where players don't wanna play. Including Toronto and Montreal. So what does Quebec City have that other Canadian cities don't? It's as Small as Winnipeg, Cold as Edmonton And you think the media is bad in T.O and Montreal... Now you're the only pro sports franchise in a city with 20 years of pent up frustration. You don't have the jays or raps to distract the city when you're not preforming. Add to that the fact that it's a mainly french speaking city. It's not gonna be on a players top 10 list that's for sure.

That's just the way I feel. I think Quebec missed an opportunity to do something big and different with the project. Instead of just building an arena that's got "Meh" written all over it they could have done something to get people talking and gather attention to the city. It's an arena in a big parking lot away from downtown. No gathering place no shops or restaurants or LA live setting. No Nothing just a parking lot. The same model that Ottawa is Willing to spend a half billion to get out of, you just willingly put yourself into. Isn't this supposed to be the centerpiece to your NHL bid? The shining star that sweeps the NHL off their feet? Why doesn't Quebecor get the ball rolling on a CFL stadium? Put The city on the map and prove the markets feasibility. Build the Stadium beside the Arena and get ...(this is so painful to say)...Videotron centre...Some TV time? just a thought

You can take this off the list for a long time. Not gonna happen with Alberta economy in the toilet and our new socialist gov't.

IMO Ken King has lost ALL credibility with his never ending teases about it. He really hasn't said diddly since beginning of March.

You being giddy about a potential new arena doesn't mean a respected businessman loses all credibility because he delays an arena announcement. Announcing details that ended up being radically different to the details of the final proposal would be a much bigger threat to his credibility. No information is better than incorrect information.

He just sounds like a slimy used car salesman to me, with his once in a blue moon "updates". Anyway, moot point cause not one single level of gov't is gonna give them a dime (rightly or wrongly so) and they can't foot the bill themselves. Time to move on I guess...

It wasn't very long ago he said in an interview he was going to announce it after the elections and might possibly wait till the flames run was over. That was a month ago maybe a week into playoffs or so. It's beyond ridiculous now how long has the flames group called wolf on the arena announcement? It's childish. If you don't want people to view you like this than stop holding the arena plans over everyone's head like a friggen chew toy. Nobody knows the plans nor the funding model. Or if this is Actually getting built or if this is just a proposal they are bringing to the city. It's absolutely Childish to be so tight lipped about a project that affects so many people. Especially if you're asking for public funding what good is it doing by prolonging this?

This was march 5th (calgary sun)

Then the ever-coy Calgary Flames boss added more fuel to the fire, going on Kiss 95.9 to say an announcement on the project was imminent, likely before the end of the month. “We’re within just a couple of weeks,” said King, adding that the team wants the mayor to see the plan first.

He also said he would submit a proposal to the city in November which obviously didn't happen

My Final Post of Shell Place in Fort McMurray.

Some of the shots have been posted before but they were the best shots.

June is the first CFL games then FC Edmonton Play. After that the opening of the Western Canada Games and Then Aerosmith Play in July.

The Change rooms will be updated a bit for the CFL teams but remeber this is a comunity Stadium.

Shell Place is looking pretty good.

Took a look at ticket sales for the rider-eskies tilt in the preseason and they seem to be moving well. Only 1-2000 left I think. The regular season game between the eskies and the Argos isn't selling all that well though. They have only sold a few thousand by the looks of things. Could be a disaster unless things really pick up over the next month.
