You can still get prosecuted and sentenced to ugh... sensitivity training.

I don't understand how another man didn't come to her aid and basically punch those two clods right in the face (to use their terminology) If that makes me an unreasoned, unthinking caveman so be it, but this I know, getting a bigger stick is all some people can comprehend from time immemorial. And it is all those creeps could understand except maybe a firing and I am loving it. Big time schadenfreude going on here.
In fairness to the passersby, you don't always know what's going on in the conversations around you. She's a reporter with a cameraman, in a public place in the daytime surrounded by hundreds of people. One can assume that most people don't think she is going to be in "danger" in that type of environment. As for the high volume of the conversation, as I said there are lots of people around, and you don't always hear what people are saying exactly. She could have been arguing with them that the Montreal Impact were the kings of Canadian soccer and that TFC sucks...

As juvenile and ridiculous as it is to do, the FHRITP movement isn't targeted to any specific woman - much less this specific reporter. This has happened to just as many male reporters as female reporters - so she shouldn't take it as personally as she did. It's just a stupid thing to shout out based on the fake original one that went viral.

In any case, I thought the novelty of doing this to reporters would've died out a long time ago. Surprised people are still doing it.

.
At the risk of sounding too dramatic, many physical sexual assaults aren't targeted at specific individuals as "persons" either. You just happen to be there unluckily at the same time as the aggressor and you get picked at random to get raped or murdered or whatever.

Right, except the actual person is being attacked - whereas this is something that's said out loud to an audience and not directed toward the person with the microphone. He/she is affected still, but mostly due to the interruption and less so the content of the interruption.

While maybe not an even 50/50 split, it happens to a lot of male reporters as well. You can see a collection of them on youtube - plenty of male reporters. Also, the person yelling it out isn't always male either.

Anyway, this thread has gotten WAY off topic now.

So how about that (insert stadium/arena here), eh?

It is automatically personal because she is female. A male reporter is going to be affected far differently than a female reporter, because the phrase is directed at women. As a gay man, someone using gay expletives affects me personally, even if they aren't directed at me specifically. In the same way, language like they used is demeaning and threatening to all women, regardless of it is specifically directed at any one person. As the person holding the microphone, I imagine this is even more true for the reporter.

^ Well said!

I feel like this discussion really should be moved to this thread in Skybar, as it really doesn't have anything to do with stadia or arenums.

Stadia is bad enough but arenum? Really? That doesn't even appear to be a real word in any dictionary I'm aware of nor in the version of the english language I've been using for over 50 years - even stadia is not commonly used in normal language by most of the populace. Stadiums and arenas on the other hand - both regularly used.

Stadia? Didn't realize we're talking old fashioned surveying here.
