His Salary was $107,000 per year. He won't make that much on unemployment Insurance, but he'll be ok, until he can find his next job (not 100k that's for sure!)

He was on the Government Sunshine List.
Would you hire a bonehead like this guy?

His Union will fight it. I have seen worse mess ups on company time get squashed. He will be back to work in 3 months once the hype dies down.

Or at least he will leave Hydro with a nice big severance/settlement package.

BTW one of my friends told me the guy also had a Pinterest "Wedding Planning" or "Wedding" page. I wonder what his mother-in-law is gonna say... she's not likely to be "dying laughing"... even eventually...

The thing is, it's happened many times on Toronto newscasts - this isn't the first time. The only difference this time is the reporter actually called someone out on it - which I think is the only reason it's such a news story now, which in turn made Hydro One fire the guy.

Don't employment contracts usually have clauses that allow the employer to fire someone in situations like this?

I'd go out on a limb and guess that this isn't the only reason he was fired... This is probably just a convenient excuse.

Yes, but the legal case (assuming there is one - highly likely) will be about how this clause was applied and if it's applicable to such cases.

This also seems a bit different from the Jian Ghomeshi wrongful dismissal case (not yet resolved I think) in that Ghomeshi was a public figure and one of the "faces" of the CBC.

This guy was a nobody until yesterday afternoon and didn't identify Hydro One at all in his exchanges with the reporter.

Yes, employers have these clauses all the time, but their broad applicability is always subject to interpretation. Just because you have one doesn't mean you automatically have a blank cheque to do anything you want with people.

Just like a bar can't deliberately steal people's leather jackets just because they have a sign that says NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS.

I don't see anything specifically Torontonian about this matter. Could have happened anywhere.

The funny this is that if Hydro One didn't fire this guy, no one would've known he worked for them. So if they were trying to disassociate themselves from this guy - they should have just ignored it.

With the influence of social media today everyone would have known. His job title and salary were also readily available. With this asshole's firing, Hydro One is coming out of this smelling like a rose. They had to get rid of him, how do you justify employing idiots who objectify women not only to your customers but to your female employees?

Hope he and the other two arseholes get prosecuted and hopefully it will serve as a lesson to the other rejects dumb enough to say stuff like this in public. One would hope but anybody stupid enough to do something like this likely wouldn't learn by example.

You're absolutely right but I do find these guys are kind of like the last car at the end of a long line of speeding cars. Everyone is speeding but you're the one who gets dinged.

Obviously, this unacceptable nonsense had to come to an end sometimes and it was bound to be ugly and painful. It happened to be with them, so it seems.

This will probably be enough to frighten anyone who works in a professional capacity from pulling that prank, but let's face it... there are plenty of teenagers or blue collar guys (e.g. someone who works in an auto body) who are not particularly concerned with being identified through their LinkedIn accounts to keep this thing going. I have a feeling it's going to get worse before it gets better.

...or blown out of proportion. It's inappropriate and should no longer be acceptable in 2015.

I should have said four guys, the two idiots who spoke and the two who uttered the comment that started it all.

I am at a loss in understanding the dumbing down of today's society. I think of myself as a tweener, old enough to know what life was like before technological change and young enough to understand said change.

I don't understand how another man didn't come to her aid and basically punch those two clods right in the face (to use their terminology) If that makes me an unreasoned, unthinking caveman so be it, but this I know, getting a bigger stick is all some people can comprehend from time immemorial. And it is all those creeps could understand except maybe a firing and I am loving it. Big time schadenfreude going on here.

^It shouldn't have been acceptable way before 2015. Unfortunately, I agree with esquire that this gets worse before it gets better.
