I'm surprised...and forgive me for this suggestion...that Novare has not proposed a Skyhouse Centennial Park at their Twelve Centennial Park development. A small grocer, akin to the ones at Plaza Midtown or Atlantic Station, in the base of a new apartment tower there would do quite well. Couple that with a grocer at the redeveloped Underground Atlanta and I would imagine residential development would take off.

The fundamentals for a thriving Downtown residential community is already there.

Pipe dream: I think the ideal location for a grocery store downtown would be at the corner of John Portman and Centennial Olympic Park Drive - at the base of a residential building. That location is central to most of the condos downtown. Anything would be better than the parking lot that is currently there, but a grocery store would be perfection.

The fact that they haven't speaks to the relative health of that area as a residential destination. A bit too far North of the heart of downtown, I think it's a tough sell. Probably better to strike in other hotter areas for now. Novare can hold that spot for later when things fill in a bit more.

If the Post development goes forward and then someone drops another office building in one of those parking lots it will bring street life closer to Twelve Centennial Park. Right now that place seems like a bleak outpost.

There are signs up along 11th and 12th halfway between Piedmont and Juniper announcing that the Zoning Review Board will hold a public hearing on application U-15-005 for a special use permit affecting this property. The hearing is tomorrow at 6pm in the Council Chamber at City Hall. I assume this is for Alta at the Park. It looks like they're transferring excess development density from 875 West Peachtree.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the ZipCar at West Peachtree and 14th is gone. In other news, a coworker said there's not enough construction in this town. Heh, stay tuned!
