Sounds like Nenshi is not convinced that the Flames are going to be able to build their complex without some form of public financing despite their claims to the contrary.

http://metronews.ca/news/calgary/1334495...-as-outlined-may-require-public-funding/

If this is true, it would beg the question as to why the Flames think it would be a good idea to promise no public money for the project. Terrible PR strategy.

Just to clarify, my specific comment there was placement with West Village, though I still believe if people get past their fear, Firepark is best.

I have a sneaking suspicion that suburbia might favour firepark for a new arena.

Just a hunch tho.

You need to seriously move on. Get over it already.

I dunno, maybe Ken King could be convinced, if only someone would go stand in the big empty Firepark lot with a sign explaining the benefits, not looking crazy at all. That might just work, I think someone really passionate about it should go do it. In a totally not crazy way, of course.

I would bet nothing is going to come out until after the playoffs now, no need for distractions.

I told my diehard Flames fan friend last night that I was disappointed in the win because now the new arena announcement is being pushed back even further. He wasn't impressed.

Ken King was on the Eyeopener on CBC Radio this morning. While acknowledging how often he has delayed an announcement, he said that we'll see the plan after the provincial election. How long after is anyone's guess.

It was also completely clear that it is going into the West Village, with multiple references to the convenience of the "overbuilt" Sunalta station.

Smart to wait till after the election. Don't want whatever they end up asking for to become a political firestorm during the campaigning.

I am hoping for locker clean out tomorrow and then probably 2 weeks before we hear anything. Or maybe the new provincial government needs to be established a bit.

^^^ So like another 6 months?

Seriously though, KK has lost a lot of credibility IMO with his endless teasing about this. Just crap or get off the pot already.

This likely just got really complicated. KK and the ownership group, which includes directly and indirectly many large (inter-related) businesses, were very much vested with the PC party. Now sure how much provincial manoeuvring was involved with they plan - but this will be back to the drawing board for them.

I was thinking the same thing. The NDP landslide pretty much kills the chance of any government contribution.

No doubt suburbia. Probably won't see the light of day now that the socialists are in power. Back to the drawing board indeed....

Relax comrade, they will pour money into it and it shall be known as "The People's Republic of Albertastan Mass Games Stadium".

Just the opposite: It was a hard no before, due to the fact they turned Edmonton down before. It's still likely a no from the new government but it gives KK another shot at it...
