Pacific Centre is Canada's most productive mall, Oakridge is #3 ...and this doesn't even include Nordstrom and the expansion.

Not entirely surprising. I don't think Vancouver's high-end market wants to shop at outlet malls, the high end stores are moving to Gastown and Alberni.

I think the term outlet is less accurate for this mall.... I would say Factory stores is a better description.

But I have a bigger argument overall with these types of developments, same issue at Seattle Premium Outlets. Non of these stores carry "outlet" merchandise... its all brand new product just made to lower quality standards ala factory stores.

They obviously do it to confuse customers... grr

I was in delta the other day and noticed the JYSK was having a major overhaul and I just got in the mail a flyer saying this weekend it has its grand re-opening. I may stop in and see how it looks now. I saw what could be a good price on TV-wall mounts. That placed always looked kinda run down before same with the one in Richmond.

Walmart is buying 13 of the former Target Canada stores, along with a distribution centre in Cornwall, Ont.

Walmart Canada says it will spend about $165 million for the leases and properties and a further $185 million on renovations.

The $350-million plan is subject to court approval, as part of Target's exit from the Canadian market.

Walmart expects renovations to start in a few months and to employ about 1,500 trade and construction workers.

It also plans to hire about 2,400 people to set up and staff the stores and another 1,000 for the distribution centre.

One of the stores is in Winnipeg and the others are in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec.

Here is a list of the locations involved:

Scottsdale Mall, Delta, B.C.
Coquitlam Centre, Coquitlam, B.C.
Surrey Place/Central City, Surrey, B.C.
Haney Place Mall, Maple Ridge, B.C.

Strange to see Walmart take both Surrey Central and Scott Road though.. with a store already in Delta and at Guildford, that's 4 Walmart stores fairly close together.

I assume the landlord has bigger plans for the Metrotown location - will be interesting to see.

That is a lot of Walmarts in Surrey. And with a Walmart in Coquitlam Centre, will they have another in Brentwood? Walmart is really accelerating growth.

outlet is just the short form for factory outlet, they were always called "factory outlets" for years, they took the word factory out cause it sounds cheaper and changed it to "Premium Outlets" or "Outlet collection" etc.

I thought everyone knew outlet stores sell product that is fake priced to make you think you are saving

at least smart educated consumers know the deal

Surrey is crazy for WalMart, smart to see them grab Scott Road and Surrey Central.

Coquitlam is wierd, the one near Pickton's farm is massive, with rumours of WalMart to Brentwood and now they're going into Coquitlam Centre and RCC in New West what happens to Lougheed?

Good to see Haney Place is going to have a big anchor in WalMart

Absolutely correct, the vast majority of 'outlet' merchandise is a 'parallel' line produced to lower standards and is absolutely ( for the most part ) not the same merchandise sold in the regular shops although these products are licensed by the manufacturer to carry the names.

I bought a fews things recently at Seattle Premium Outlets. The Coach belts I purchased were not at all the same as the ones solds in the Vancouver Coach store on Burrard. The stitching was different and the quality was subpar. The Tumi wallet I purchased didn't even resemble the ones in Artino on Alberni.

Looks like a UK based outdoor brand "Mountain Warehouse" is pushing into Canada with stores opening at the outlets in richmond as well as vaughan in ontario. They only produce house brand product that looks pretty cheap. Should be interesting to see how they fare in the land of MEC. They have a pretty strong presence in the UK and a few locations in Europe.

as for Coach, if you ever get tempted to buy off ebay or whatever if there is an "F" in the serial number that means its from the Factory outlet store, i've seen a number of Coach items at winners that have the "F" at the beginning of the number, I bought a wallet at the seattle outlet, its not bad, comprable to the ones i saw at the regular store

I shop the gap a lot and sometimes their factory store, the clothes are completely different and subpar to the regular store but for the price its been okay and since everytime i have been in the sale price is always on so you never pay what the tag says

You gotta think Wal-Mart really wants into Metrotown, so it does make you wonder what's in store for that section of Metrotown. I predict a major redevelopment with a tower of some sort.

I think the revised store sizes at King George were too small for Wal-Mart anyways.

Good to see Maple Ridge get the Haney Mall space filled - as that's a big downtown anchor, from what I understand.

Surrey will be Wal-Mart City!!

I think the combo of Brentwood, Royal City Centre (New West) and Coquitlam Centre seals the coffin for the Lougheed Wal-Mart.
Plus, the long term plans for Lougheed do NOT include anchors at the ends of the mall (which becomes a pedestrian "street".
