The real problem isn't so much Place Bonaventure but the entire CN development including the CN HQ, the Queen Elizabeth and the other midrises along University.

The ONLY way to fix that damn gap is by replacing the Central Station's 5 storey parkade on de la Gauchetiere with a 200m+ tower (not 120, 160, but 200).

That new tower adds a nice 'little' touch to the Montreal Skyline, it is far more modern than anything else there though.

Jesus. 1170 sq ft condo for $407k. I presume those old warehouses are being re-purposed to retail, similar to Yaletown. Great area to build a dense neighbourhood around. Notre Dame w is close by too.

Rather than build up the assets of one's own city, places in Ontario don't bother and just rely on Toronto for a wide array of things. Why try to attract your own baseball team when you can just see the Jays in Toronto. Why try to build your airport up when you can just drive to Pearson? Why build a big museum when you can just drive to Toronto to the ROM? Windsor, Hamilton, KW, Oshawa, St. Catherines/Niagara all do this.

I understand the rationale but the long term effects of it are cities that punch way below their weight. Victoria and Halifax are the same size (or smaller) than these Ontario cities but look and feel much bigger than any of them.
Yep. Even Ottawa looks small for its size. Arguably Winnipeg looks to be more of a big city even though it's a lot smaller than Ottawa.

Although, Kingston is once again the exception. Mainly because of its bustling historic core, Kingston seems a lot bigger than most other Canadian cities in the 100k-200k range. Kingston's also surprisingly polycentric given how small it is.

On the ground though for actual urban regions Ontario cities stand up well enough.

Oh, and I stumbled into a chance to go to the (near) top of the Bow. ACAD was having its annual portfolio show, and apparently they were holding it on the 54th floor floor of the Bow this year. Having a fiancee who graduated from ACAD continues to have its perks. I only had my iPhone handy, so this isn't really up to my usual standards of quality. But, it was too cool not to share:
