But only one team is from that Metropolis. In Winnipeg's division it is Sioux Falls (^125,000) and Fargo-Moorhead (^250,000.)

Saskatoon at almost 300,000, Regina at 225,000 all seem to be possible. Regina is a hard sell with the Riders owning the fanbase beyond belief, but Saskatoon and Calgary and Edmonton. Even Red Deer and Lethbridge are approaching the Sioux Falls size. Medicine Hat had a fairly well attended baseball team when I was a youngster. I think there are some options available. None of them really easy and as was said, maybe not triple-A, but there are some possibilities.

I do believe I am just waxing nostalgic though and saying I'd be sad to see the diamond go even though I know that's probably the best option for the area.

Thursday April 23 from 7-8pm at DECL, 10042-103 Street

The Downtown Edmonton Community League will be hosting a meeting to update downtown residents on the proposed development on the former Healy Ford site on 106 Street. We will hear from the applicant and have an opportunity for Q&A and to provide feedback.

This is the second opportunity for DECL members to meet with the applicant. An updated proposal will be available based on feedback provided to the applicant from Seventh Street Lofts, area residents, DECL, and the City of Edmonton Sustainable Planning and Transportation Departments.

Must be a Downtown resident and DECL member to attend. Residents without current memberships can purchase them at the door for $5.

You turn 13 and you stop caring. It's the easiest thing to participate in, and as a result you don't get heavily invested into it.
You're right, soccer is definitely not hockey in this country.

But I'd still put my money on the future of soccer in Edmonton before baseball.

Here is an article about the Canucks / Lions / Whitecaps which is quite interesting. http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Canucks+Whitecaps+give+Lions/10930298/story.html

I'd still like to see Telus field considered for soccer. Edmonton FC is here, and they want a new stadium and since there is no ball team I think it could make sense. They get more fans out than the Prospects.

Sorry to derail the thread.

I agree with you to an extent, but Edmonton of 30 years ago is different from Edmonton of today; population and demographics-wise. You're right, I did attend Drillers games as a kid, but didn't make it to one Eagles (remember them?) or Brickmen game as a teen/youngish adult). New Canadians will drive the growth of soccer in Edmonton, and it's future looks a lot brighter than baseball. Edmonton will never get AAA ball again. Baseball starts in April and we know how that works in these parts. Telus needs to go.

Revised Healy plans just came across my 'desk'. Much more refined podium, slimmer towers, more height, same # of units (1300).

Will post after tomorrow's meeting.
