However many fit on the 10th floor of the Comerica building. They lease that whole floor, I think. Maybe 175-225? I would think they play on adding more with this new development.
Great news Syndic! But I wonder where the tower would go since the power plant is already surrounded by development. I can't wait for more details!

This means Green Water Residential #2 would be Green Water Office #2.

Well, it could be a mix of office, hotel, and residental. Isn't that what Northshore is?

Jon, my friend doesn't know much about the area. When she said "next to" I'm sure she meant "near"; i.e. Green Water block 185.

Damn - we should have told you to ask what architectural firm she works for. I didn't think of it yesterday when I saw your initial post.

Super tall? For someone who really doesn't know high-rises (I'm assuming here), something like 400 feet would be super tall so let's not get our hopes up. Besides, doesn't the waterfront overlay prevent something from being especially tall on lot 185?

I was basing my opinion on this quote from Syndic's post: "on Cesar Chavez next to the Power Plant".

Ohhhhh. It did say Cesar Chavez, didn't it?

Ugh. Well... I guess Block 185 is probably it then, I just don't expect it to be more than 450 feet.

Yeah, to my friend, 450 ft would probably be considered super tall but I'm betting the phrase "super tall" was used by her architect friend, which might give it a different meaning than how my friend might use it. But re: height overlays, isn't this usually gotten around by having a podium or setback or whatever? Northshore isn't exactly short. I don't think a building taller than Northshore is out of the question.

I hope not. But, the way Trammell is developing the site seems to be that every tower in this grouping is going to be around 400'. Why? I have no clue.

I think if 500 West Second was 100' taller it would make for a much more interesting grouping of towers (since Austin Proper will be about 400'). Or if the Northshore was 100' taller than 500 West Second and Austin Proper was either 50' taller or shorter than 500 West...In any case, some differential in heights would, to me, be much more interesting than what is being developed.

I agree. I hope this one is taller, but am not expecting it.

Does anyone know what this project is? It looks like it's over in the Plaza Saltillo area and you can definitely see the Hilton & Frost Tower in the background.

Forge Craft Architecture

It just says mixed use project - coming 2016.

Awesome to hear! Thanks for the info, Syndic! Keep it coming. Give her a cash handshake for a look at any plans for us, too.

The name of this photo on Forge Craft Architects website is "Chicon1_r2_...." so it's definitely East Austin. Chicon Street is a little further east than the Plaza Saltillo redevelopment but it's close, and Chicon crosses East 6th where all the development is happening.

I'm thinking 4th and Chicon since it looks to be South of Frost and the Hilton in the rendering.

OK, thanks. Maybe it's this project at 411 Chicon.

City leaders may push to develop yet another site in Central East Austin
Austin Business Journal
Jun 24, 2014

Quote:
Austin City Council is considering turning a city-owned, East Austin parcel just a few blocks east of the Plaza Saltillo MetroRail station into Austin's next transit-oriented housing hub.

The site, at 411 Chicon St. and across Fourth Street from the Oswaldo A.B. Cantu/ Pan American Recreation Center, consists of 5.18 acres the city currently uses for a warehouse, offices and vehicle parking. If Council passes a resolution at its June 26 meeting, the city could move to develop the site in a way similar to the contest that just concluded for the 11-acre Plaza Saltillo redevelopment just blocks to the east, though the city is keeping all options open at this point.
