Yeah... there is a crew on-site today. BUT, it's a landscaping company... so I'm betting this is simply a fence repair (or maybe the developer's realized the project will never happen & has decided grass will grow to 26 stories quicker than Capital Pointe ever will).

Anyone heard anything further about Boyd Excavating? CTV is the only outlet to report the story so far... haven't heard anything since (except that some Boyd trucks have been seen around the city). They are (were?) a decent-sized player both for City contracts, and for residential construction.

I have heard rumours of Boyd recently, nothing worth spreading until I see or talk to them directly.

We have some potential issues coming to light with the over aggressive and competitive construction industry we are in. Taking on too much, go lean on pricing, have a couple jobs not pay or have holdbacks charged back, all of a sudden you are left with financial strains. Note, I am not saying this directly about Boyd however.

Boyd just shut down, didn't they? Someone I know had a friend who works there and they've been locked out and the place is shut down, from what I understand, with the owners leaving town and heading north. Business went under, I guess. I could be wrong, but my understanding is the entire thing is going under.

That was the basis for my question - only 1 news story on the subject strikes me as odd. And the story highlighted a lot of facts were unknown, so I expected a follow-up at least by CTV, as well as other media.

Sounded like Tyler was on one page (business closed/employees laid off), and Tim was on another page (business as usual).

Notice was served to the City that Boyd wouldn't be able to fulfill contract...then almost immediately retracted - they'll be able to complete obligations.

Employees were laid off, then some were recalled (only to find the shop emptied out).

Almost sounds like a family dispute that spilled over...

Yeah, could be. I heard that an equipment supplier had to repossess some leased equipment to them over missed payments. Sounds like a bad situation.

Doublestardrilling.ca has been awarded the shoring/piling tender for CP, but I'll believe it when I see it! Well Mr. Greg Black, if this project is going ahead why don't you announce which hotel chain you have chosen, oh, you don't have a hotel chain chosen--no hotel-no condo tower- that's my view anyway!

Yeah - that's what I'd heard, despite an apparent lay-off, people are still seeing some of their trucks around. Maybe whoever repo'd them sold them to someone else (really) quickly?! Something's still not adding up on this one...

It's a 1920's themed lounge. Obviously it's a tunnel you were not supposed for see for the bootleggers to use.

Actually, at first glance, I didn't realize there was anything unusual in that photo. It looked just like all of the other sidewalks downtown, complete with ladder to get out of the hole

On that note... this is something that really peaves me about the condition of our downtown sidewalks: the City could have done a lot of sidewalk renewal (if not all) for the cost of the City Centre Square. They are a disgrace!

I notice yesterday that they have begun the restoration work on the old building that is part of Glencore, on ALbert Street. They have fencing and scaffolding going up. Will be great to see that old building restored. Will try to take a picture when I get a chance.

At the very least, get rid of the tree boxes, since most have sat empty for years... I think it's safe to say they won't be replaced (which is sad, but...). Leaving the boxes as-is creates a tripping hazard/CoR liability, and is an eyesore. Fill'em in with paving stones or concrete.
