I think someone posted a while back, might have been in the previous Regina thread, photos of what Victoria avenue would have originally looked like if the initial plans had been followed. Possibly some plain museum photos maybe? Anyways, I wish the city would consider upgrading the roadway, sidewalks and landscaping from Albert Street to Broad to actually make it a beautiful stretch of roadway downtown. Everytime I come home, I am just disappointed in its disrepair.

Yes it really is. If they would have given the first floor of condo's a concrete floor it would be a great building.

Now the Hotel at the corner of Dewdney and Lewvan should be great acoustically.

Also they are pulling the wrapping off the Pasqua North Hotel I will grab some shots soon, it does look nice for a stucco clad box, looking forward to seeing, what I can only assume is the waterslide tower.

It's probably going to be the same as in pretty much every other hotel in this city, sans South Travelodge.

I had been wondering about that hotel on Dewdney and Lewvan. It surprises me that they can build so tall (six floors right now) without steel framing. Seems somewhat like a cheap way to do things, but I could be wrong. It's probably just as well that this part of the country very rarely gets earthquakes of any significance.

The hotel on the corner of Albert and Dewdney is a joke. The north pasqua Hotel has burned down and been rebuilt faster then it.

I believe it is reinforced concrete pillars with precast floors and cinder block walls. It will be 7 storeys.

The Wingate by Wyndham on Broad Street & Saskatchewan Drive was constructed in the same manor. It is also 7 floors.

And they are quite expensive to build.

The Marriott on Dewdney and Lewvan will be the nicest hotel built in Regina in sometime. All of the stick-built hotels in the south and east all look nice but you can hear everything in the hallways and between rooms.

I might be looking to purchase a condo in the next 2 or 3 years, but what I really hate are all the cheap wood ones that have popped up. I live in a wood apartment right now and I hate having to hear my neighbours all the time. I wish there were a better selection of affordable concrete condos in Regina. If I want anything nice I'm looking at $300,000+.

Somewhat yes... but also having a strong business association to push some standards and improvements forward can really act as a springboard for anything the city could layer on top.

Ha, all right, I retract my statement about the hotel on Dewdney/Lewvan looking cheap then! I'm not overly familiar with construction methods, and wasn't sure about cinder blocks to any great height, but now I see they're using concrete as well. I agree it's much better to not be able to hear your neighbours.

The on campus population comes with an increasing international student population. This is the new cash-cow for universities because not only do these students pay full (or nearly full) tuition, they tend to need to live on campus because they often don't have vehicles. This helps relieve universities, and the U of R in particular, from the yoke of provincial subsidies.

And both share equally important (Wingate even more so) corners of the core. Neither should have been approved in my opinion, no matter how much of a need there was for hotel space.

Shame about the location though, it's really far out east with no great access to the Ring Rd or similar high-speed roads.

And are they including the deck space for their square footage?
