So awesome, this was the weak point of the network. The riverwalk expansion down the Elbow to Mission should be starting soon too, which will further solidify the pathway system. The Stampede is building a big new park out there right now as well.
I'd like to see more public art down along the Eau-Claire side too. Will be a great draw for the city.
Maybe they could put that Occupy Wallstreet art piece there... or would it rust (and does that matter)

I wonder how susceptible the River deck would be to flooding, it is just a pathway after all. Surely it could be submerged in the event of extreme high-water (not to mention the water level of the lagoon is controlled at the causeway, so flooding would probably only be an issue in rare mega-events).
It looks like there is substantial effort put into expanding and connecting the pathways in the area to relieve some of that congestion. Great to see.

I'm sure the deck would be fine, I guess more the erosion that occurs during these big floods. It's amazing to see ho much the river course changed last time, and given the current flow around there, it may be susceptible to being undercut. The deck area isn't in the causeway from my understanding, it's basically between Louise Bridge and LRT bridge.

With respect to Bearspaw Legacy Park and Haskayne Legacy Park, it will be interesting to see how the CoC develops Bearspaw Legacy Park as it is currently quite a rugged and very much wild area. Haskayne Legacy Park will be much more easily accessible and is also much easier to develop into an accessible space for the general public.
The area contained within what will be Bearspaw Legacy Park is quite different from a lot of what can be found in other Calgary parks and I dearly hope that it is left pretty much undeveloped and difficult to access except for those that wish to work a bit in their adventures and not have to rely upon paved or graveled, relatively level paths.
Some pictures from the area - some are mine, some have been scoured from the web. Some of mine were taken with my S3 in failing light and I have to apologize for the poorer quality - you can still see how unique this area is though. A very thickly forested trail which one needs to hike on to get to these cliffs with plenty of elevation changes...

That's because they physically don't exist yet (at least I don't believe so) - the space is there but not really easily accessible. Bearspaw can be accessed from the east side via Valley Ridge, not even sure if the Haskayne area is accessible yet.

The fencing at the Enoch Sales House Park (corner of McLeod Trail and 12th Ave SE) is now down and the park is open to the public. I'm still quite disappointed that the City hasn't been able to come to an agreement to incorporate the house itself into the park. Does anyone know if there have been any updates regarding moving the house?

The main cliffs are on the west (right) side of the cove in the picture below and are called Little Arizona by some. Watched trout jumping in that cove in past years and there's a rope swing from a tree on the east side of that cove. There is a trail from the parking lot area on Valley Woods Place NW - the trick is to go left when at the top of the path near the dam even though the left path looks less traveled, this path will come out and follow the cut-line under the power lines almost all the way to the cliffs.
The area in the picture I posted below is accessible via rough trails from the south side of the dam. There are bike paths in the area including some elevated wood structures although I don't know how sound they are - it is apparent though that off-road cyclists do use the area.
The main cliffs in the picture are accessible from Springbank although you'd be hoofing it across open, private land whereas the trail from Valley Ridge is quite concealed even from the air. One thing to note is that these cliffs are on private land for now although we've never seen any landowner down there - for all I know these lands may have already been transferred into whatever will become Bearspaw Legacy Park. Certainly it's an area that needs to be protected, the sandstone area in the first picture is very difficult to get to - we actually stumbled upon it in trying to follow the shoreline west of the dam. Very beautiful, secluded and untouched - will have to return there this summer again. There are also some very ancient Douglas Firs in this area.
By the way, get in there sooner than later if you want to see this area with your own eyes as the north side access to Bearspaw is all off limits - the CPR and the CoC fenced and gated it to keep people out a year or two ago. Can't even get near the reservoir or dam or the river below the dam on the north side without doing it illegally. This means there's a virtually untouched fishery on the doorstep of Calgary - pike, rainbow, lakers and mountain whitefish.
