University of Saskatchewan begins construction of new child care centre

Capacity for children will jump to 200 on campus

On a week when CBC is highlighting the challenge that parents face in trying to find licensed child care, the University of Saskatchewan is getting ready to expand the childcare centre on campus.

The new expansion will have room for 90 children, bringing the number of licensed child care spaces at the U of S to 200.

The province is investing $1.3 million dollars in the $4.6 million dollar expansion.

"I've heard countless stories from parents who found it increasingly difficult to find child care that was accessible and affordable," said outgoing Students' Union President Max Fine Day. "This new child care centre is going to go a long way towards reducing some of the stress and a lot of the barriers that students currently face."

Kinsmen Park on track for summer debut

If the work can begin the week after that, the third week of April, that time frame would mean the work could be complete by the end of the third week of June, just before the official start of summer on June 21.

"I think it's going to be fantastic," Humphrey said. "We're very excited."

The Ferris wheel stands out as a highly visible new attraction, but a new minirailroad with a 626-metre loop is being rebuilt and the carousel animals are being restored.

When the park reopens, the cost of a ride will have doubled to $2. Residents can also buy a 12-ticket pack for $20. Groups can also rent the park for a cost of $60 per hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until the end of June, when regular hours will run from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. City council approved the new price structure during 2015 budget deliberations.

I see the new strip mall on Emerson just off 8th (By A and W) is nearing completion. Nice looking building. The sign says 80% leased ( I think)....anyone know who is going in there?
Also.......is the second Earl's location at 8th and Circle confirmed?

Rumour has it Canadian Blood Services is relocating from 325 20th Street to that location.

I certainly hope not. While acknowledging that their current building downtown has its "challenges", it is at least centrally located. As a regular donor, I will continue to do so regardless of thier location, but it becomes far less convenient for those of us that don't live or work on the east side of the river.

Construction set to begin on major building project in Saskatoon

The 30,000 square foot commercial building will be erected at 123 Avenue B South. So far, 24 per cent of the project’s space has been purchased, according to its website.

“We have confidence in the economy, we had a lot of local people supporting us and backing us up on that so we thought let’s build it and we have confidence that the city will support it,” said Trent Norman, the project’s manager.

The design of the building will be an “interior Tetris-based configuration” according to developers, allowing buyers a chance to combine multiple units or splitting ones if they only needed a small space. It will also feature an open courtyard in the middle of the building.

“We were really looking around the neighbourhood, the re-gentrification of it,” said Norman.

^ Yeah, my eyebrow raised at that. 2005 must be the Farmer's Market, but the Banks may be the most important project in Saskatoon right now, after the Remai Modern. Oops, Global.

Is The Banks technically in River Landing and not Riversdale?

The City considers it to be officially within Riversdale, and doesn't consider River Landing to be a "neighbourhood" per se: https://www.saskatoon.ca/sites/default/f...pping/wall-maps/index_nhoods_key_map.pdf

Though in people's mental maps, I guess there's an argument to be made otherwise.
