According to the Halifax news the FS at Bayers Lake is permanently closed so there will be locations that will be negatively impacted although Halifax does have other established BB options.

The FS at Dartmouth Crossing will be toast as well. It's quite literally across the street from the BB. I think there's a FS in Bedford too. It might survive, but with two Best Buys in town I wouldn't be so sure.

In any event, it would appear the only Maritime city negatively affected by this will be Halifax (and New Glasgow and New Minas, where the FS stores closed last week).

Re the Dartmouth location you are correct. Just saw on the news that it is permanently closed.

Re the NB locations....My sense is that in the end we may actually end up with a slight upgrade

FS in St. John's permanently closed this morning. There's a BB a stone's throw away from FS. Really 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 for FS employees - this is indeed tough times for Canadian retail.

From my experience Best Buy and Futureshop were essentially the same. The only plus from Best Buy is the musical instrument section. However, much better to rebrand rather than loose a store altogether.

New Brunswick and P.E.I. are the only places in Canada not negatively affected by the FS closures because up until now they were the only two provinces in Canada with 0 Best Buy stores. And I don't think it would make sense to have 5 Best Buys in the Halifax area.

Recently with the popularity of online shopping it probably hasn't been profitable to have Future Shop and Best Buy stores competing with each other in close proximity across the country. I've mostly bought from Best Buy over the years as it has a better in store experience, won't really miss FS.

Good news for NB & PEI and Cape Breton. Any word on the Newfoundland stores?
On a side note, it's good that Best Buy never ended up building in Mapleton Centre.
Speaking of Mapleton Centre, I don't remember if it was mentioned but the permit in the window of the unit next to Ashley confirms Party City as the tenant. Therefore I'm going to make a guess and say that the DSW will be built on the corner of Mapleton and Creek Street with the parking lot facing Sleep Country.

The "strategic withdrawal" of Target from the Canadian marketplace is turning into a full fledged disorganized retreat (think Napoleon and Moscow).

All Target stores in the country will now be closed by April 15th. Better get your deals on the discounted merchandise soon!!

The Future Shop in St. John's permanently closed on Saturday morning. I guess merchandise will be shipped up the street to Best Buy location.

There is not much left and what is left is picked over. The place is a mess and it looks awful, like a flea market, I'm sure Target Corp. in Minneapolis wants this whole nightmare to be over ASAP. I don't blame them, this whole debacle tarnished the brand; dragged into the mud to say it nicely. Don't plan on buying things with Target on it; signs, cart, bags and all other items are being bought by Target Corp. to be returned to the US and will be reused or recycled. (Value of 2.2 million US$)

Attention shoppers, now a new batch of Walmart and Dollarama will open soon.

I am not sure what is going on but this morning I received this information directly from Verdiroc Development Corporation (Mapleton Centre).

"We are happy to announce that DSW will be occupying the space directly beside Ashley Furniture." So now the question is, Where is Party City going?

So there you have it.

This conflicts directly with what is printed on the building permit plastered on the window of that unit. This makes no sense.

If true, maybe Party City is going to the Northwest Centre???

I talked to them again this afternoon. They told me "DSW will be sandwiched between Party City (end unit) and Ashely Furniture." I did not think there was two units left or enough room. They must be creating another doorway to make two units next to Ashley Furniture. This came directly from the developer today.

Champlain Place news:

I see that they have found a (temporary) tenant for the old Coach location.

Steele Auto Group is setting up a showroom again at Champlain for their stable of Jaguar, Porsche and Range Rover vehicles.

I wonder if they are testing the waters for a possible satellite dealership in Moncton?

Didn't we talk about this topic; the Steele group; Jaguar, Porsche and Range Rover vehicles a couple times in the past? I think they only do this to attract some sale at their dealerships, like they've been doing in the past. It's springtime afterall, which means car fever. Nothing more IMHO... and with the NB economy where it is now.

The 2016 Jaguar XE will start at about $20k less than the cheapest current Jaguar (competing with the Audi A4, BMW 3-series, et al). That should certainly make the brand more relevant to the NB market so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a combo Jaguar/Land Rover store in the Moncton area.

Porsche is a bit of a long shot though though I suppose not outside the realm of possibility especially now that they offer the Macan (smaller SUV) and will soon offer a less expensive four door car as well (basically a smaller Panamera).

According to the leasing plan there is 2 spaces next to Ashley in Unit B. They must have to make a new enterance for DSW, with the permit info for the "blue exterior" unit being correct about party city.
Unit B would look like this then:
Party City, DSW, Ashley, Bed Bath & Beyond & Pet Smart.
