I think it's taking bland to a whole new level. It wouldn't even be as bad if the brick were grey or something. As is it screams 80's design with window wall (which they'll probably cheap out on).

The brown brick wall 'paying homage' to the historic Traveler's building next door is the kicker though.

The only good thing about the above Calgary proposal is that it will block some of The Bow's uglier side. Worst part about The Bow is how wide and exposed it looks from the NE.

I think it will emphasize it not hide it. The reason the Bow's north side looks even worse is the fact the valley seems to chop it off at the knees. Blocking it within DT will have the same effect.

Do they all have a clocktower of doom to count down the precious few minutes remaining in the lives of their elderly residents? If only they had a long glass corridor connecting them to a neighbouring funeral home like that notorious place I saw in Boucherville years ago. Can't remember where exactly it was but my Grandma always laughed about it. I think it was next to a mall, or a Tim Horton's or something.

This… at the corner of East Cordova and Columbia streets in the downtown east side of Vancouver. It's an EasyPark parkade with a women's resource centre on the main floor. Thank God for the trees.

A few others from here...

The Quality Inn, one of the many nails in the coffin that completely killed Water Street East. It's a parking garage at street level down there.



Perhaps the poorest use of space in the downtown of any in-fill project in the city. Took a dense stretch of Duckworth Street and made it look like a resort village. And the stucco hit job on that Indian restaurant next door isn't so hot either.



Ugh...



And, of course, the former Newfoundland Telecom Building. It has been abandoned my entire life. It's right in the heart of downtown. It was supposed to become MIX Condos but that seems to have fallen through.

Ok so maybe not but it has that same rundown feel and is a corner facing building. Also interesting that this building has a women's services centre in what must be the most 'rape-y' looking parkade I've ever seen.

They rased an entire blue collar neighbourhood to build that. The studios are all underground the parking lots. It is famously the biggest and most hurtful massive destruction in the history of this city. And now, they want to requalify the whole thing and build a brand new neighbourhood above the parking lots.

Lebreton Flats in Ottawa may top it. Not only was an entire neighbourhood razed, it was then literally left as an empty field. This at least had something go in it.
