Seeing the core of the 38 story in the last photo with the columns gave me chills. That was a parking lot for decades and now we are finally getting a mega project, right there.

But if this is getting OT, it does come under the heading of the new apt tower proposed for broadway....very contemporary in style, similar to chicago's aqua....to be built by the same owner based in australia who has yet to do anything about the inexcusably rundown roxie theater.

As with the tower proposed for 4th & hill, I almost wish certain future projs not be publicized....that they remain totally unknown to the public....unless the owner is 100% confident he has both guaranteed funding & a firm timeline to break ground on such a proj. moreover, if the long overdue cleaning up of bldgs like the roxie on broadway cannot be done until & unless the new apt tower is underway, that's an unacceptable delay.

chills for you, but also a sense of relief & gratitude for me that the type of changes I've long wanted to see in dt, & have long been waiting for, are finally coming to life right before my eyes.

dtladenizen's & eightball's pics are of an LA that, in spite of today's issues with skid row, graffiti, crime, bad schools, & the pollution alluded to by dtladenizen, I'd rather be witnessing than the LA captured a long time ago....

^ I'll take the city of LA shown in the last few seconds of that vid any day over the LA of the distant past. Or, at the very least, if the present is imperfect....& it is....so definitely was the past.

I just feel sad for the predecessors to LA's ssp forumers of 2015.....the ppl who could have related to the hopes & interests in this thread over 60 yrs ago, but who throughout their life would see nothing but a city crumbling for yrs into the future....for 2 or more generations....with only the burbs showing signs of life at that time.

I really don't think the streetcar is going to make things any worse. I already avoid driving in those streets anyways, as they are so slow. I think the plan is to remove the buses from those streets if/when the street car opens.

The city really needs to rethink the bus situation downtown. Dtladenizen had said that Huizar said the current routes were based on a study done in the late 1970s.

It still bugs the crap out of me that the lot across from Fig@7th is still sitting there with no plans for anything within the next 2 years. As the bigger lots slowly fill up, the smaller ones seem more noticeable and apparent.

A progress shot from Saturday morning of the slowest project in the seven kingdoms. It's funny, every time the Downtown News does an update on the project, representatives say that it's "on schedule." Probably because Cheech & Chong were the ones that scheduled it.

Yeah, real good picture. The city seems in a cool mood, about to offer pretty much anything existing in the world to date. That's why I like to compare it to my metro area. As different as they may be, they are kinda similar somehow. Sprawling too much, but offering everything possible.

One of many game changers going on right now but one that is really needed in this part of town. I hope they can score some great tenants of all stripes (office, retail, food). Broadway has felt pretty stuck over the last year or so...

“This is the largest L.A. development opportunity around,” said Bradford McCarthy, a CBRE Group Inc. senior vice president who represented the seller of the 14.6-acre (5.9-hectare) property in a transaction that closed Tuesday. “For just land, $130 million is a lot to pay. And it’s a lot of acreage.”
