Have you never done that before? Whenever my family goes on road trips, we always stay in suburban hotels. It's just so much cheaper. Then you just drive downtown in the morning to do your touristy things and then drive back at night to sleep.

I always found the Saint-Martin Hotel (the kind-of-castle one) and the Hilton to be decent suburban hotels. The others are completely uninterresting (Holiday Inn, Sheraton, etc.)
It's time for Laval to get a nice hotel around Montmorency station. That would be an important addition for the next few years with the arena being built and some other big projects.

And the Résidences Soleil... well, it is what it is.

I study at CEGEP Montmorency so I literally see it everyday. I've come to accept its presence to the point that I don't even consider it fugly anymore... It's there and I have to live with it.
It has become a true landmark (I'm not even joking, yeah it's a pain for the brain, but it's sooooooo big). At night I can see the clock from Terrebonne on the North Shore. It's so impressive and sad at the same time.

(As you can see, I have a very strange love-hate relationship with that city. I was born in Laval, I live in Laval... and yet all I can do is hope for a better future as its people did for the last 50 years.)

^there are some good highrise proposals for Laval... It's the midrises (5-15 floors) that I worry about...

Hopefully Laval will build a real downtown around Montmorency Station in the future. The Place Bell is a good first step.

That statement of theirs about being timeless and not about 'sassy trends' is kind of ironic considering a few years ago they tried an ill conceived flash mob / fake red carpet thing to try and promote it. I believe it also involved new Austin minis.

Especially when you're Lacaille. The detail I hate the most on that podium is that dated arched window which seems to be so popular here. I've seen it appear in recent designs like in the New Sait campus and Montana condos.

I think it's some weird hangover from the stampitecture phase. Which seems to live on among a small percentage of developers.

It's on the nouveau-riche gaudy side for sure, but a far cry from the substandard crap we've been seeing for the most part in this thread. It doesn't even incorporate any visible amounts of EIFS, which is practically mandatory for inclusion here.

How did they get away with a 3 story building in what looks to be DT Vancouver? Besides that I don't mind the material and at least it 's got some different articulation. Again just be thankful those windows aren't 80's / 90's style fake French arched windows. Though they do still look dated.

Any one else have fake ruins and fake historical kitsch in their new suburbs? Thought I'd repost this from UofC Engineer in the Calgary section. The only one I'd add to his list is Legacy in the city's extreme south.

In addition to being tacky and completely fake these structures actually end up costing residents a premium to build. Maybe I'm crazy but spend that money on something more useful like public art or I dont't know... Functional amenities!
