I think it refers to a group of buildings with a common focus as opposed to a cloister.

The bldgs appear to interact with the waterfront. Mcdonald, Gomez, Waterfront Drive and Higgins in a very urban way,,,

This is the beginning of concrete action in South Point D with the stakeholders who own and control the lands....

Just going off what campus suggests to me before. After looking at the proposal more--the Freep article does a poor job explaining what the site is since it's not bounded by Macdonald to the south at all--it could be good. I'm not sure any of the buildings interact with any street in a very urban way, but it could be worse. I think best case scenario they could end up with a Forks type area. They have a lot of open space in there, though, and if they give too much over to parking, it will turn the development inward and make it a suburban office park in the middle of the city. That would be a terrible outcome for Point Douglas. I really hope they devote more space to landscaping and their long-term plans include some infill

It's a reno of the current Canada Cartage building at the corner of Gomez and Macdonald.

I wonder if this will motivate the owner of the Gateway land at the east end by the Lousie Bridge to develop or sell his holdings in the area to someone else to develop.

Guy know's what he has, potential route for the new Louise Bridge, $100K in scrap metal on the rat trap of a site, maybe he can call Shindico and see how he can get a good deal from the city.

not sure of the status on these, but a few Verne Reimer proposals:

Lux Condos (34 Carlton St)

from vernereimer.com

373 Stradbrook

from vernereimer.com

275 Garry St (Garry Street Hospitality and Business Centre) - this on the fame site, maybe a MBLL proposal? it's also referred to as "cloud condos" on the website

It will be interesting to see where that so-called World Trade Center ends up. It is currently on Provencher which doesn't make much sense. Selinger has his mitts all over that ultimate decision I suspect. Should be a nice tenant for someone.

well they might have a lot more money now than they used to since they were given the green light to take over that small business service centre that used to be located in the Cargill walkway. that centre is well funded.

you are right they could be involved in mlcc process. being close to convention centre probably makes sense although I heard at one time they were keen to be near portage and main. I think the wtc in Edmonton is located in their old downtown Bay store.

I read the newsletter that came with my Hydro bill and it says that construction on the new downtown substation at Notre Dame and Adelaide is supposed to begin in May. It'll be an improvement by breaking up the long strip of surface parking on Notre Dame even if it is a piece of boring (but necessary) infrastructure that generates no neighbourhood activity whatsoever.

The more interesting element to this is the question of what happens to the 100-year old substation on King Street north of Notre Dame that it will replace? It's housed in a somewhat handsome heritage building, but how suitable is it to being redeveloped? The block that it sits on is one of the deader ones in the Exchange, so having people and activity in the old substation could really change the feel of that part of King.

Most likely the new station will be additional capacity, not replacing the old one but adding to it.

The newsletter is a little vague as to what's in store for the existing substation... it says "A new substation is required to replace King, as the building needs structural repair and has other safety and operating issues." They don't say whether they're actually going to carry out those repairs once they have a new substation to fall back on. Or do they literally mean the new one will replace the old one?

There has been some construction/renovation happening on the Fame site lately. I have no details what it is about but would imagine if this proposal is happening the two would be related.

The FreePress as gone down the paywall route before and still has lots of lessons to learn. For example, their outbound sales team will call you at home at 7:00 pm however if you need to call and talk to billing about something their hours are 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, and no, the sales people cannot look at billing issues. The FreePress is also planning to charge $0.25 per article if you are not a monthly subscriber which could push you well past the newsstand price on given days. There is also a reason that Toronto Star established a paywall which they are removing in favour of a free, ad-supported, tablet edition. Ultimately you want eyeballs on your content rather than your hands on people's wallets. The FreePress will learn this but huge much more relevance will they lose to learn this lesson?
