The new MkIII trains will be configured as "married quads" of four cars (A-C-C-B). They can't be separated into 2-car or 3-car trains.
I can see the new MkIII trains being used on the Waterfront - King George runs - especially while under warranty so anything that breaks is fixed by Bombardier.
Even with these 7 new train sets, Translink will still need the MkI and MkII train sets to handle the passenger volumes on the Expo line - especially during the rush hours. While the new MkIII trains are in constant use to be 'broken in', the MkI and MkII train sets can be added/dropped to handle the changes in passenger volumes over the day.
