That seems to be the new norm, which doesn't stop some people from running for it as though their lives depend on catching it. You may wait about the same amount of time overall, but at least a lot of it is on the train, which is still an improvement.

Being that the wait for the next one to arrive is so much shorter now, I hope people get used to that and wait instead of forcing doors open and causing service interruptions. I'm not particularly optimistic on that front though.

People in Ottawa are like that, though. Even for the 95 at rush hour, which comes every 2-3 minutes, people will run for it like they're going to get shot in the face if they miss it. What's particularly bad is when people chase after a bus that's already left, banging on the door of the now-moving bus until the driver opens it and lets them in. I mean, if the next bus isn't for half an hour I can understand, but if the next one is only 2 minutes away, it's just nutty...

Hmm. Service interruptions are going to happen now and then (the Toronto subway and the Montreal metro both have outages every once in a while). We have yet to see whether the new Trillium Line is going to keep those to an acceptable minimum. Typically the standard is to have a maximum of 1% of scheduled trips affected by outages.

I don't know if you've heard them, but there are pre-recorded announcements on the buses lately about not running for a bus that is pulling away from a stop. It's pretty sad that that's necessary.

How do you know whether you are in Minute 1 of 8, or Minute 7, 52 Seconds, of 8?

I'm surprised it took this long; there have been people, um, rendered unfit to ride transit by doing that in the past.

There's also people who think that they have the right to board the bus that's stopped at any red light. The bus driver lets them on, then they spend forever asking questions or throwing a billion coins in the machine, and by the time the bus is ready to go the light has already gone through a whole green cycle and the bus has to wait for the next one all over again. I've seen this happen quite a number of times on Albert-Slater.

Part of the problem is also the bus drivers who are too willing to be nice and let these people on. Bus drivers need to be encouraged not to do this.

That's why we run.

You don't. What you should know is that even if you do miss it, the next one will be there in less than half the time it used to be. Not that 15 minutes was an eternity to begin with, mind you...

For now.

Once the project is finished and the schedule is finalized, you'll be able to know when it leaves.

A friend of mine back in college got ran over his bus running after it. Both legs got crushed. He's lucky he can walk today.

If I can avoid waiting eight more minutes, I'm dashing for it. My minutes are valuable to me.

Or, I can spend the time I'd otherwise spend looking up the schedule, rushing to the train, where I can check the schedule at my leisure, or depart, as the case may be.

It's not that hard to learn departure times. Say it ends up being :04, :14, :24, :34, :44, :54 when all is said and done. If you're taking the train regularly one should learn that and not bother running if its only :01.

Think of all the minutes he might saved along the way though. ;-)

Seriously, I saw something similar happen to someone. She was running full tilt, slipped on ice and slid under the bus. The driver was just starting to leave so he was able to stop but if he hadn't seen her she'd have been in bad shape.

The funny thing is because of the longer wait time, most of the people who run end up just sitting there anyway.

Via the 417 thread: Confirmation from the MTO that the design for the replacement of the 417 overpass of the Trillium Line is protecting for double tracking. Not that there was that much doubt about it to begin with, but now we're absolutely sure

Information boards at the open house showed the many options the MTO considered in coming up with a preferred plan for the O-Train bridge. The removal of 47 Young Street would be required to facilitate the construction of the span. The remaining area underneath the new span would be able to accommodate twin O-Train tracks, as well as the existing multi-use pathway.
