Great. A full-line, non-discount Bloomingdales would be great for the city and make a lot of people happy.

Bloomies in the Gallery would be a big change, truly though and build off C21
Nordstrom would be great for Broad and good tenant for the Atlantic Building. I got some intel that the other part of the Pestronk's project (the apartment piece of the project) is slated for completion Q3 of 2015. It's being billed as 1401 Spruce. Check it out. It's looking to be nice and high-end and the apartments big (the 3bedroom den over 3000 square feet):

With that and SLS coming and the other wealth in nearby Center City and Rittenhouse, this would be a good place for a Nordstrom.

What about the old Strawbridges space on 8th and Market across from Ross? I know that Century 21 took part of the building. If there's any empty space and an entrance fronting Market, it's probably a possibility. If all that's left is the 8th Street side, than it might not be enough space and frontage for Bloomingdales. Though the 8th St entrance is still quite grand. https://goo.gl/maps/4pY30

Who knows, considering the overall tax burden in the immediate suburbs maybe this will be negligible. That's my hope at least.

Eh, you're right: I overreacted. I was just tired of things divulging into a he said/she said debate about taxes. Regardless, my bad.

Saw this in the paper this morning, Inga's thoughts on the Frankford Ave. Hotel. Interested to see how this turns out. Obviously having to build a parking lot is a little of a downer.

is it neighborhood opposition or just a lack of potential demand? I didn't see a price tag associated with the Hotel but it's not like it would be some crazy, absurd number. A project of this scope would be modest by city standards, and would even be modest relative to some of the Blatstein-scale buildings a few blocks south.

I see. I was not aware that this has been in the works for so long. I figured with the (successful) development of a number of businesses along that stretch, I figured that this was the perfect time for someone to come in build something like this. Someone needs to call up Stephen Starr and get him to do some fundraising. Bring in Marc Summers haha..

Add in the fact that this is Fishtown, not CC and the developer isn't an experienced hotel guy and you have a long shot of a project. I don't want to sound too pessimistic though, roland is a ballsy guy that makes things happen.
There were rumors about this years ago, but nothing took off. This is the announcement of final plans to do this. He has the designer of a project in NYC with him to do it and the entire neighborhood supports it. The project is going to a vote in a month so he can get his variances and start the work.

If it were a long shot, then I don't think he would be doing the "full steam ahead" process with dealing with the neighborhood, finding a well-known designer, and seeking the variances.

Plus, it has multiple restaurant space, swim club, etc etc to act as an additional support for the project. From what it seems, I think the only hurdle left is financing.

The 3 bedroom and den floor plan you referenced is a proper layout for a family with 2 kids. Lovely proportions/scale of each living space, especially the kitchen/dining/living area which is 30'x30'.

Any idea if this is for sale or rent and how much? Thanks!

None. They're not using union labor as I understand it. That was part of the reason for the delay (but not the primary one). Construction supplies and materials needed had a habit of falling off trucks or taking a few extra days to make it onsite. Union retaliation.

It's going to be high-end rentals once the renovation is finished. I'm not sure on price.

Meanwhile, Parkway and the anti-land tax brigade behind the scenes . . . . DISGUSTING SLIME! Makes my blood boil. Anyone who supports high density urban development should make a stink about these blight profiteers.

The old guys behind the young guys

Think about young people moving to Philadelphia these days and you see visions of obnoxiously skinny jeans, beards and bicycles. What you probably don't think of are parking lots.

But now we have Philly 3.0, a new "Super PAC" fronted by youthful leaders*T.J. Hurst*and*Ali Perelman, that purports to represent all things millennial.

Word on the street is that they are quietly pushing some decidedly un-hip prerogatives on behalf of the group's backers - parking magnates*Robert*andJoe Zuritsky, of Parkway Corp.

Rumored to have millions to drop on the primary, 3.0 says it's looking to spend it on youthful, insurgent City Council candidates who will push issu es millennials care about. But at least two Council hopefuls they approached were quizzed on, of all things, their support for reducing the city's parking tax, a source told us.

Maybe it's not surprising - the asphalt kings have written editorials opposing hikes to the tax and even lobbied Council to reduce the levy by 25 percent. Parkway Corp. allegedly left the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce over its wavering support for tax cuts.

But it's not true, says Hurst . . . .

Allan Domb for councilman at large, would be nice to have a real estate guy in council, he has my vote.

Interesting puff piece about Market East in the paper today. Nothing new, except where a CBRE rep is quoted as saying that Target Express is slated to occupy the Brickstone project on Chestnut. Lots of interesting history, too which I think we all know in one form or another. A good article altogether.
