Oh I know you aren't worried Johnny. Just in case anyone was thinking of correlating the IAH downguage with oil prices or something.

Like I said before, new WS YYC-IAH is real interesting given the lackluster performance of their last few ventures to the south and east US.

IAH on the 73G is a seat improvement from the 739 UA puts into the run. UA has 15 exCO 739 with midcabin lav and no E+ and high density seat config that I like to call Kunte Kinte ships. I hope UA keeps the 73g onto the run.

Also the usual warning about relying on advance scheduling to determine the type of airplane the pax will fly on. UA combines their Boeing and Airbus narrowbody fleets with the exception of the afore mentioned 739 Kunte kinte ships.

Yep my flight on July 2nd from IAH to YYC has been downgraded to the -700. Although it's still far in advance the flight is nearly empty.

I'm the first to admit with UA "what you see is probably not what you'll get" but that's the way it is as of the upload this morning. Absolutely UA will chop and change their equipment well before then... My main focus of this post was pointing out the mainline additions to ORD and perhaps they are anticipating a drop in YYC-IAH traffic this summer.

Same with YVR... additions and equip changes all over the shop. YVR-IAH now showing some 739 action. SFO back to 5 daily mainline.. EWR now added for the whole summer... IAD is still not loaded and it's looking like that may not happen this summer.

YEG on the other hand still showing a big reduction from last summer still plus some unusual sched changes like the first SFO now departing at 0600 and the one daily IAH moved to mid morning at 0915 .

I just got an e-mail from Expedia.au offering me a chance to win a dream trip to the Canadian Rockies! They give major props to Banff and Lake Louise and even mention Kananaskis. They also Mention Calgary as part of the trip

The thing is too, Calgary is also the Eastern Terminus of the Rocky Mountaineer on many of their trips. That is a pretty big thing downunder. Aussies love the whole train trip through the Rockies coupled with an Alaska Cruise. Big advertising for that. Although, I have to say, recently I notice more and more of the itineraries do a Rocky loop from/to YVR only. Regardless, Calgary is certainly the main gateway to the Rockies from the East.

AC execs must be doing a dance around a big pot of gumbo with model 763's hanging from the ceiling.

Interesting that this type of statistic is a recurring theme across the board. 73G to finally picking up the 738 for WN, and WS too a bit I guess. UA/CO and DL moving up to the 739. The non-existent life of the 736/318. AC's interim usage of the 77W on typical 77L routes with virtually no penalty. And still AC seemingly waited to swap some -8 for -9 on the ordersheet, waiting for either real-world returns from other airlines' -9's, or their own stats on the -8? Maybe they knew there'd be further delays so why rush anyway...
Power by hour leasing really only works on older fully paid for aircraft that still have economic useful life. For the leasing company every flying hour goes to the bottom line. The airline is still responsible for maintenance, so it's not like they can beat the airplane like a rented mule and leave a half dead corpse for the lessor to clean up.

The 736 and 318 were both shrink from the original design. That is why they didn't sell well against an airplane that was originally built or expanded into the role (like the e90). The aircraft weight made 736 and 318 uneconomical as they needed to have same equipment and building materials to maintain commonality.

According to a friend at Air Canada they're keeping some slack in the Embraer fleet for the eventuality they have to respond effectively to a simultaneous incursion by American or Delta.

An AA/DL invasion of Canada? The E90 is gonna save our country from that?

If Air Canada found it necessary to respond to a new mainline cross-border service the Embraer is the right tool for the job. That's why they bought them in the first place.

Which AC transborder stranglehold routes is this going to happen on that AC does not already serve with greater equipment than E90? Unless the E90 will be supplemental equipment? I'm baffled.

Mainline transborder onslaught can take the form of a few mechanisms.

(1) AA and DL are deploying Embraer E75 and small narrowbody (717) where previously they deployed CRJ and ERJ. If DL and AA are sucessful in getting additional pax because of the larger aircraft, then Ac would have to deploy equivalent equipment onto these routes.

For DL instance, AC would have to redeploy E75 onto YYZ-ATL/DTW. To get the E75 AC would have to put the E90 onto YYZ-BOS/DCA.

In the West, if DL and AA are sucessful in setting up near shuttle operations on YVR-LAX, then AC would have to pull rouge off the route and put on E90.

(2) if AC were sucessful in getting their share of USA to world traffic from 0.8% to 1.5% this would require putting larger aircraft onto transborder and these airplanes might need to have proper J cabin to attract high yield traveller.

(3) most remote possibility is an expansion of the Open skies agreement with the USA. There is zero chance that American airlines would operate domestic services in Canada even if allowed by regulatory regime; there is a possibility the American airlines would like to operate direct domestic services. For example, DL could do YYC-MSP-YYZ on a single ticket. Pax would still have to use their passport but the USA could do something with their tax regime to reduce the tax burden.

In this instance AC would also be able to operate BOS-YYZ-LAX. This type of operation is expected to be a bigger benefit to AC than a threat because the USA domestic market is much larger than Canadian domestic market. In this instance the E90 gets put into BOS and DCA while the E75 is used to operate CRJ/CRA services which then frees up CRJ for new transborder flying.

Nice international numbers. I predict that overall we'll still increase a little by year's end, in the 2% growth bracket. We'll pass 15.5m is my guess.

Heard a rumour that AC's second 789, fin 832, will be delivered in Star Alliance colours.

I think a 763 in Star colours was Rouged, but with fin 938 the Star 333 sticking around, I dunno.

I'd like to see that, would it be the first 787 in the Star Alliance livery?

AC has 2 A320s in Star c/s along with 1 A330. The 763 was indeed Rouged last fall.
