Yeah to me it seems like they are just talking about the normal plans, that the middle part of the mall would be torn down and rebuilt as an anchor, and extra foods would be torn down and rebuilt as smaller stores/etc.

I think it'll be interesting to see how council handles this request for money from REAL. Our council does have a habit of saying yes to development, but at some point, there has to be a breaking point. Our tax system can't support continually adding more.

This could be out of left-field and has the possibility to really go either way on the amazing to cheesy/terrible scale, but some comments in the Skylines for cities under 1 Million thread got me thinking a little...

Someone mentioned how it's a bit of a shame that we no longer have the grain elevators lining rail lines like we used to... Would be kind of interesting to see a couple apartment buildings put up in the renewal area (perhaps on the rail side of the land parcel) with a design somewhat similar to the Saskatchewan Expo '86 pavillion. Sort of modern take on the grain elevator shape. Sort of an homage to the history while at the same time providing for a boost in the downtown area population base.

I'm here and there on it. I would go and leave from the university at odd times (sometimes staying well past midnight), so unless they would have really extended the running hours of the buses, I would have been very much against adding another fee on top of tuition if I were still in university. I do see the benefit of the guraranteed income to the transit system though; it could definitely act as a catalyst to better service/a better system.

I was reading some of the materials that the Student Union/the supporters have been publishing though... and they are being quite misleading at times and really stretching the truth. Sort of doing a political style campaign of spin rather than just providing facts/information.

Regina Transit will never improve without the U-Pass. U of S getting it has put a ton of pressure onto Saskatoon City Council to improve service, increased ridership, and guaranteed the bus system hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.

Saskatoon is making very strong strides to improve transit and hopes to implement BRT within 5 years. None of it would be possible without the U-Pass.

I was one of the pedestrian counters that were hired last year to count "traffic" at the Farmers Market. So many people were counted multiple times because we were told to count every person that crossed our sight line. I would discount their numbers by al least 40%.

I know some university students and there is big opposition to it. There's a lot of misinformation, too. From what I understand each student would pay a certain amount per semester, and then they can use a bus any time they want, anywhere they want. But URSU people (who seem to be opposed to it) are telling students that you also have to buy a regular bus pass on top of the fee.

There are legitimate reasons to be against it (higher car use for Regina students perhaps, etc) and instead to be for alternatives (such as better parking, etc), but the misinformation is out there from URSU.

The U of R has more parking than the U of S, despite having fewer students. Adding more parking spots won't help. You have to get people out of cars and into buses.

Voting down the U-Pass will improve nothing.

The NW corner isn't directly north of Swiss Chalet - do you mean the NE corner (by the Southland sign, in the corner closest to Gordon & Albert)?

Or are you talking the NW section of the mall parking lot as a whole? Where the Turbo/Shell used to be? I assume that's where the CHOP Steakhouse is going.
