I always thought that crashed ice took place in Quebec City. Whenever I've seen it, it has always been in Quebec.

Its in several cities throughout the year. Quebec is by far the most common Canadian city (although its been in Niagara Falls twice). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crashed_Ice

Here's a map of some commuter rail routes being studied in Halifax. There are also rumours that VIA may expand passenger rail service within the Maritimes; it'll be interesting to see what happens with that. I think there would be plenty of demand for even just a Moncton-Halifax train, and that route is not currently well-served by the Halifax-Montreal train that only runs 3 days a week.

Transit-wise I think a commuter rail line that connects with streetcars could be really nice for Halifax. Dartmouth is already served by a couple of BRT/express bus routes (there is no rail bridge across the harbour, although one actually did exist in the 1800's).

Quebec City's municipal government is currently unveiling its finalized transit plan. A few years ago, LRT seemed to be favored by the city which hired consulting firms to do a feasibility study. Due to budget concerns, another option was added to the study last year: Bus Rapid Transit. Considering the current budget restraints, BRT has been choosen by the city. However, the City also mentionned that it would eventually be easy to adapt this infastructure to a real LRT in the future.

Montréal Métro is on rails and rubber wheels. Quebec LRT is a BRT , a bus basically.

Will this BRT save much time over the existing METROBUS routes? Median bus lanes with grade crossings don't usually lend themselves to actual rapid service.

Those buses look great but must cost a fortune. If they're going to do all that work why not just do it right the first time? Those should be LRT.

They're stretching for testing the line near the end of this year and beginning public service sometime in 2016, assuming the tunnel boring isn't pulled any further behind schedule.

The Evergreen Line has been delayed due to a problem with the tunnel boring. It's now scheduled to open Fall 2016.

I'd like to know about Quebec City too though. How finalised is this plan? I'm a big proponent of BRT and this looks great. It'd be awesome if this actually started construction relatively soon.

If they really wanted to do it right the first time, they'd build a metro.
