Bonneville Golf Course is by the Zoo and it will not be closing ... that one makes money.
Glendale, Nibley and and Wingpoint. Glendale is by Raging Waters and Nibley is on 700 E and about 2500 S. According to the city counsel they think these courses would be better as parks. Now if the city is trying to save money this is how you don't do it. They will go from managing golf courses that had at least some income coming in to now managing a park which will have zero income to us for keep up.
Maybe that's what they want, and in a few years they will say these area's are too expensive to maintain so we are selling some of it to development so we can save money. But to do that they would need voter approval, I think.
But all of this can be traced back to the Airport Audit a few years ago that forced Wingpoint to start paying fare market value for the land it was on. That course was feeding the short comings of all the other SLC courses. Now with no money from Wingpoint SLC needs to rethink the courses. Wingpoint will be sold to the Airport or FAA and it will probably be turned into Parking or something else down the road in like 2050.
SLC currently has 7 public courses, which is a lot. I do not know of any other city that has that many in Northern Utah and that is not counting the Country Club.
