somehow Campos concludes that it is the construction itself that is making prices so high, and not the outrageous housing demand that is prompting all the construction.

Well, Campos hit a nerve. Nobody EVER posts comments on Biz Journal articles. Well there are certainly a lot of people who seem tired of the constant charades. That's good!

I'm excited to see the UC Hastings and 1740 Market proposals. Hastings has an amazing opportunity to help reshape that troubled neighborhood. Despite being a really good law school, just stepping out of the classroom buildings or especially the deco residential tower was a real suckfest. I had a friend who lived there and she has lots of scary stories to tell.

The 1740 parcel has truly been underutilized all my life. The current iteration seems almost cursed, despite what should be an excellent location at roughly the intersection of Market and Valencia. I lived a couple blocks away some 15 years ago, and over the years I've watched a ton of businesses and eateries open and then close prematurely, with long intervals of lifeless vacancies.

I have friends who are students that live in that tower now and it's a big change for the better. Neighborhood is improved because of it. And lots of late night options like a big city. GSU almost single handedly transformed DT Atlanta so anytime there is investment by a major university I'm optimistic!

Very nice pics! Ive never flown that close to downtown flying out of SFO.

Those pics are from a small plane, that is why they are low. Its low wing, something like a piper? The jets usually give you a view like this (from an A320 SFO-LAX, 2010 as I recall)

Recently I have witnessed some surprising construction of the New Apple Store nearby Union Square. I thought they were going to preserve the historic elevators that are the only ones left but, instead they take down the whole frame, I believe that this decision was not required. Link to my vids on the demolition will be posted soon. Due to the outrageous burst of construction most people have forgotten to appreciate some historic buildings, now a days if you got the money you got the project. As a local resident in Nob Hill, I feel that the planning commission needs to step in more to help preserve the historic and old pieces. Now you can't entirely blame the commission its usually the developer who wants to design their sheik buildings. I hope that we can help preserve any remaining historic pieces.

I think planning should come in and bulldoze as much as they can but that's just me. They already preserve way too much junk. A two story brick building isn't historic its just old and has to go. Apple's new store is amazing.

I mean they do preserve to much, I was trying to say that the apple store was stunning but, maybe they could've somehow incorporated the elevators.

If that were to happen, your head would spin with the additional delays and roadblocks that would be created. It simply wouldn't be tolerated, nor imo, should it be. We need better, bolder modern architecture instead of so much watered down, VE'd, or bland stuff that we get stuck with, but we don't need to wipe away vestiges of the past if they're either good or historic. Read our history, where entire blocks were leveled by Urban Renewal or the fabulous Fox Theatre was demolished for Fox Plaza; there are many other sad examples too. There is no reason that we can't have it all most of the time in this city.

Facing west, and not very high up. The rooftop is actually still closed until March but I got a sneak peak. The bldg. will be full up really soon, I'd say by April it will be 2/3rd full and 90% leased. I'd have preferred to face North or East but its no big deal. The other amenities (gym, patio, lounge) are not opening until April.
